It was a user request from what I've heard.

I really liked TH2, especially Dimitar Nalbantov presets.

Now, I like it even more. The new amps sound great, and bring something different in terms of tone IMHO.

And the 3 new BASS amps... Finally !!! Finally someone who doesn't forget that there are BASS players that use amp sims too haha. Not to mention they sound great, especially the Ashdown (not that the others 2 are inferior, just different).

All right, did give in and ended up trying the demo version.

I did not hate it as much as I was expecting, given the bad experience I had with TH2.

Although, there is some really weird digital artifacts when an amp is driven a bit too hot, and there seems to be a noise gate enabled even though I made sure it is disabled in the master section. At time, the sound just cuts off with no decay, even though the strings are still vibrating.

Clean sounds are just OK. Nothing spectacular. Seems to me that this amp sim is built for metal heads, which I am not.

For me it doesn't have that smoothness and creaminess of S-Gear nor that "in your face" sound of Revalver4. So I will continue on using both.

But if Overloud came out with an update that fixes these issues, I might re-give it a try.

Having tried it now, I'm very unimpressed with the clean and slightly overdriven sounds. Can't really comment on the distorted sounds, since I have no taste for them.

The UI is also really annoying to use. Too much scrolling and dragging with the mouse. Really unpleasant to use when you're trying to tweak a sound.

Oh well, I'm sure plenty of folks will like it anyway.

This sums it up for me. I keep hearing a slight overtone that permeates all the amp models. I'm not sure where this comes from, but it has the effect of making all the amps sound samey. On a good note, I'm glad they added more amps and effects, as soon as I deal with the previous issue I may purchase it(once the price drops)

I demoed and thought it sounded brilliant, that the new interface was a significant improvement over TH2, but wtf do I know

Well, no offense to anyone else, but out of all the talk on kvr, you are one of the only ones I've ever heard and that was some years ago. THAT sounded great, so I have a tendency to listen.

@Dimi: EVERYTHING he does sounds good.

Absolutely. I love how in the video they call it a great feature that you can (read: "are required to") zoom in to each individual element so you can tweak it "undistracted" by the rest of your rig. Spin of the decade. Also indicates they know how cumbersome it is but aren't doing anything about it. What do they think it adds? It's like playing Command and Conquer.

But then their third bullet point already is how they used "3GB of raw graphics". Because Priorities. :dog:

Still, I always loved the 'feel' of TH2 and now the DVmarks may sucker me in and they'll chalk it up as another win for eye candy.

"500 000 lines of code"? So... bad optimization?

And.. there was only one short clip of actual playing it? (which didn't sound impressive).

I guess I can safely skip this one.

The interface with all the zooming involved is a bit of a PITA. I also get crashes whenever I quickly scroll to the end of a bank/preset list. In terms of sound this is a clear improvement for those who like high-gain sounds, at least judging from the presets. Revalver, Amplitube and Guitar Rig don't come close. S-Gear is close, however. All in all, a satisfying upgrade, but YMMV!

The TH2 interface was better thought out than every other AMP Sim

What's up with this new trend of releasing new versions of ampsims for a lot of $$$ without remodelling the existing amp models?

If it is only a new skin for prior amps, and only a few new extra amps for 199$, I will not even bother demoing TH3.
To be fair Amplitube's 4th gen modeling tech exists only in the newest Amps. The AT4 and AT Mesa Boogie collections have about five Gen4 amps each and after promo reductions will cost about the same $80 as the TH2 - TH3 upgrade.

I guess you can always come up with v2 of each amp, but I for one wouldn't want them to change existing amps. Breaks backward compatibility.

can't you have TH1, TH2 and TH3 installed simultaneously?

Why would I want to do that?
what happens when an OS comes that breaks TH1 and TH2 for instance?

Nah, it's painful and RSE inducing after a while. It's not the best out there, far from it.
