ok i've had it for almost 24hrs now.

summery (better details later)
good:
install is fast (no drivers needed)
cubase preset works great out the box
key feel is awesome.. black keys are a bit 'lighter' then white keys tho.
price is pretty cheep for this size of kit.
lots of knobs and buttons :D

bad:
messing with assigning the 'transport' controllers in cubase made cubase go poof.
also the transport controller have a wierd 'feel' you have to hit them solidly.. no little plink.
manual is poop.
its huge. i had to move some things around.
you have to hit too many key combos to switch parameters etc on it.. not unlike the oxy8.

Great news jdg!

Can you confirm whether it transmits channel and/or key aftertouch?

Hopefully we'll have them in Europe soon.

can't get aftertouch to work .. :?

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

(not that I ever use aftertouch: it's just the principle of the thing!)

You could try to use MIDI-OX to see if it's actually being generated by the controller, but not being received in your host?

Maybe it's sending aftertouch on a note by note basis, and your synth is expecting channel aftertouch (or vice versa)? I agree with the idea of using MIDI-OX to monitor the output, to make sure of exactly what's coming out of the keyboard.

As for the manual, have you looked for any PDF-style manuals on any CD-ROMs that might have been supplied with the keyboard? Some companies print crappy paper documents, but actually have a good manual hidden on the CD-ROM that accompanies the product.

the PDF manual is freely available here >>>

I did an Adobe acrobat reader 'Find' for aftertouch
and it reported "no occurrences of aftertouch found
in this document"

Sorry to enter late here. But what about the Roland A37? It has semi-weighted keys, I hated my old Oxygen-8 keys. :(

Studiologic has an 88-key with aftertouch, splits, knobs and sliders that weighs 14 pounds (6kg?). The action is nice, but it does not look that great and if you put it on a regular stand and pounce on it, I would imagine it would bend a bit. The other complaint is the price - $700 street. If they lowered the price to $400 It would most likely be a better choice. They have another (TMK-88) 88-key 14 pound controller without the aftertouch and sliders that is around $299 street price.

The M-Audio 88 keystation is heavy and not that easy to take with the laptop, The TMK would be better for that type of portability. I want one of each of course..

I carefully looked at the MIDI implementation chart, and there is no mention of aftertouch. It would seem that the keyboard isn't setup to transmit aftertouch of any kind, not even the bandwidth friendly channel aftertouch, but as a perverse sort of consolation, it does flood your MIDI stream with active sense transmissions. ;)

What exactly did we need active sense for? I forgot.

I suppose if feel of the key action really suits you, that is probably the most important single thing.

I take part of that back. According to what I see with MIDI-OX, my little Kawai only transmits Active Sense when there is no other activity being transmitted. In that case, it's not so bad.

I'm still not sure why it's really needed.
