Relax please. I'm still trying to assimilate this new discovery about one of the inventions from your friend Slate being crucial for the future of Cubase.

The funny thing is that when you meet Steinberg representatives in person you are happy as a bird singing on a tree. You keep the hate for Kvr. Blowjobs for them, rants for us.

Have you used Slate's "Batch Commander" with Pro Tools?
Have you used NEYRINCK's V-Control Pro?

Especially in direct comparison with the Cubase iC.

If not, maybe you should.

Who says that I am not(!) criticizing Steinberg if I meet the reps in person?
Do you have actual proof or do you only throw around assumptions again?

Like I said - please write me a postcard from up there. :tu:

Does Halion just not like inserts? Anything I add immediately mutes the sound.

edit: trial and error saves the day again! so VST 3 effects only! strange.

Like the way the guitar and piano player text automagically turns to german once in a while though.

And the time display changes to random numbers!

Question:
If I buy the usb e-licenser from Yamaha dealer, will I be able to buy the upgrade version to Cubase Pro 8 (from elements) direct from Steinberg's web store?
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Sure.
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

EnGee, out of interest, how much is the upgrade from Elements 8 to Pro 8? I only see the regular upgrade from Elements 6/7.

Well, this is what I call bugs.

Q on Halion though. Are you talking about Inserts "within" Halion, or inserts on the channel strips outside of Halion (read: the mixing console with individual channels). Because if it's the latter - then it looks like C7.5 is the end of the line for me if other synths and sampler (read: third party) respond in the same manner. Which they didn't in the 10 minutes I worked with 8.0.0 a couple of months ago.

I really don't know. It is the same for me, I just see the upgrade from Elements 6/7 which is NZD 549.99 for me. Expensive, but still cheaper than the dealer (who must also check and ask their parent company in Australia, then order it from there ..etc).

Anyway, the full price of Cubase Pro 8 in the dealer's shop is NZ$825.00. The usb e-licenser is NZ$59.00 (why!! :x )

Cubase Pro 8 has everything I want and I'm already familiar with it more than other DAWs! I don't know, I might buy it from the shop by paying installments every week or just keep saving (it will be Cubase Pro 9 by then :hihi:)

Inserts on the track, as it were. not within halion itself. Just responds to vst 3 at the moment. It's no real biggie for me as I have vst3 and 2 versions of the plugin i want to use (timeless 2) but just bothersome. Haven't yet tried to see if it's just an issue in general mixing vst versions, though. The text values does seem to be a bit of a miss, though. I note that the date for this particular version being completed was Jan though, so i'm sure in time honoured fashion, there's a patch on the way. hey, i'm a gamer; I'm used to this!

And I cannot speak for everyone else, but for the price, it's unbeatable for the bits that do work. You want problems? You should try tracktion 6.

Cubase does get it's share of bashing doesn't it? :hihi:

I do find it a good little DAW here though....now if only I can get my piano fingers working.

Before things go absolutely haywire, a couple more Q's:

a) which Cubase version? Full, Elements, Artist?
b) If you installed both the VST2 and VST3 version of a plugin (e.g. Melda Production), do the VST2 versions how up, or only(!) the VST3 version? (some developers have this issue, if the ID's are the same, then the VST3 version is prioritized)
c) What Halion version?
d) Track Instrument or Rack Instrument?

e) and just to really clear things - please try(!) VST2 plugins on various synths. If you can only load VST3 versions there as well - then either something is wonky, or Steinberg suddenly dropped VST2 (which is hard to understand, as the VST3 SDK is backwards compatible).

So am I, but if this is really happening - then I consider this a HUGE issue that needs a fix within days, not within every other month

Again - depends on WHICH Cubase version we're talking about. If it's "Pro", then the price is IMO not okay. My reasons why and opinions to this are well known at this point.

This is elements. It just seems to be a problem with Halion, the one that comes with elements 8, as all other vsts regardless of what version. Pro has been out for yonks, so if no one else has come across this in that version I'll be very surprised.

Post

Which is why I was asking for details. So... if all other VSTi work, then it's a Halion Sonic SE thing.
Though I wouldn't count too much on bugfixes for AI/LE/Elements.

Weird upgrade path

I wanted to buy Cubase Elements 8 so I can use it on my Macbook without a dongle, but as a full Cubase 6.5 owner there's no direct upgrade path, but there is if I had Elements 6/7? :?

So if I spent less in the past, I get a bigger discount now?
