Why is ACE so much less popular than others?

Yes but when you revisit the preset some time later, you won't immediately know it. So it's faster reading the labels than following cables around.

id say labels add clutter too, how about hovering over the cable?
it would also be nice if these modulators had arrows pointing to the target (like Bazille), and perhaps were smaller than the control knobs, then we could have a few more

one request would be that I'm not a big fan of the current mixer setup (with the crossfade between two oscs) because I have no idea what its doing when I plug a different cable into that port... I wish it would switch to straight attenuation like the other slots if I plug a new cable in.

See page 20 in the user guide. It modulates Balance i.e. what the knob does. There's no such thing as "straight attenuation" for a balance knob!MitchK1989 wrote:one request would be that I'm not a big fan of the current mixer setup (with the crossfade between two oscs) because I have no idea what its doing when I plug a different cable into that port... oh wow I'm dumb.
I thought those input jacks in the mixer were audio inputs to be mixed, not CV inputs for the knobs.
So I guess I'll rephrase my complaint then: The mixer is useless when you don't want audio from the oscs but instead to use a mixture of tapmap lfos, white noise, and/or subosc etc... Because I can't mute the top section.

Reading the manual usually helps! (True that the mixer is useless if you don't want to use the oscillators).MitchK1989 wrote:I thought those input jacks in the mixer were audio inputs to be mixed, not CV inputs for the knobs.

ACE is great just the way it is. I don't follow things closely enough to know about popularity and neither do I care. I have a giant Eurorack modular and also a couple of semi-patchable synths (e.g. Cwejman S1, Korg MS-20M). I would say ACE does a bang-up job at the semi-modular thing with normaled paths cut when you plug in a cable and it also provides a rather good lesson on how patching within a fixed system can bring out creativity.

I like the idea of updating the filters because they can be a little "sing songy". There is too much resonance in most presets and I always have to turn down the resonance. I think it's because of the AM/FM possibilities which will jack the pitch sometimes and definitely jacks the resonance on the filters. Just my two pence. It's such a high quality sound tho. When I say "high quality" I'm assuming you guys know there is a difference between the character and timbre of a sound produced and the quality of the sound produced. Ace isn't a copy...you can hear the instrument at work...that's very rare in the software world.

Worth considering, although I'm happy with those labels always showing the normalled input (see e.g. ARP 2600). Maybe "grey" them out?hyperscientist wrote:My humble opinion is: Don't put labels there once cable is connected. At that point we know very well what goes in/out, so let's keep it simple and pretty.
