for me cubase 8 is the only daw i would use. i bought s1 v3 and sold it for c8.
can't wait for studio one to handle audio the same way cubase does. once it does i'll buy s1 again. hopefully in 3 years time in s1 v4!

Crazy... seems this developer (I guess it's Edward Doll?) has not idea about this versionCompyfox wrote:At this stage from the "Leaked info's" (from those people that could buy/install it already - a clear hickup from the developer side of things btw - nothing illegal as hinted at with the comment: "Were did you get that version from? Yeah, it's Ed (Support Manager) - though it seems he has an idea about that version and just is being sarcastic with his comment, as usual.4damind wrote:Crazy... seems this developer (I guess it's Edward Doll?) has not idea about this versionCompyfox wrote:At this stage from the "Leaked info's" (from those people that could buy/install it already - a clear hickup from the developer side of things btw - nothing illegal as hinted at with the comment: "Were did you get that version from? Well that's an underwhelming update.
I don't have an issue with Retina on my MBP anyway, and I think I've used Retrologue.....once.
I'll wait for 9!

Surprise surprise the usual suspect et. al have already formed an opinion before even knowing the full feature set or trying it.

I don't understand this...
8.5 is not officially released and some guys (or one guy) already has this version. This guy wrote that he purchased C 8.5 from the Steinberg Online Shop

Is there any option to try before buy?zvenx wrote:Surprise surprise the usual suspect et. al have already formed an opinion before even knowing the full feature set or trying it.

I have formed my opinion based on the evidence that was provided so far on the Cubase forum, which would not be enough for me to instantly update - though I also mentioned that I hope for features that haven't been discovered by the few people (at least two of them on the Cubase forum) who already have 8.5, which again would probably make me think to buy it.
Also things like a Retrologue 2 instead of long requested features (e.g. bezier curves for automations, which people wait for since years) simply make me sad and angry somehow.
Anyway: If Steinberg follows their usual lead of release dates then we'll see tomorrow, since then the update should be available - then we can make a decision.

According to the Cubase forum and the Gearslutz forum some people (at least two) got a link for the shop to get the Cubase 8.5 update in whatever way - this is still the biggest mystery (the link was deleted shortly after that and is not working anymore).4damind wrote:I don't understand this...

I am a bit curious myself still, but the screenshots provided look quite legit, and the comment from Ed mentioned earlier also is not quite a denial to that fact.

No there isn't currently any option to try to buy something that hasn't even been announced yet.FrankLaVerne wrote:Is there any option to try before buy?zvenx wrote:Surprise surprise the usual suspect et. al have already formed an opinion before even knowing the full feature set or trying it.

and yes, make a decision after it has been released or at least announced with all the features that are new. The currernt info in the thread on cubase's forum is not official.

I did not get download options, unless installing dropbox downloader.
But just edit end of url "dl=0" to "dl=1" and my browser could also download it as pdf.
Not fond of mystery download software on my pc like dropbox provide.
EDIT: What seems to be new:
a) Project window Rack - something to do with mediabrowser
b) Arranger Editor - better abilities to chain subchains of regions as I understand it - nice.
c) Project profile - haven't looked precisely what that means.
Manual is extended with more headers on certains topics - if that means new stuff also or just improved explanations I don't know.
One thing I hoped for was ability to split stereo tracks into mono tracks at OMF export, to be ProTools compatible - it's not improved. Both Sonar and Samp has simple checkbox for doing that - rather poor of Cubase if to challenge ProTools in studio environment, you cannot overlook PT.
And when is a daw to take midi clips as seriously for transfer between daws, one wonder. AAF/OMF are still not covering midi as I understand. With the amount of midi involved in modern projects it's strange that midi clips are not covered.
Closest I came was transferring projects from Reaper - and if midi clips were made external files, they also came with EDL format - so I used Samp to take those right up. But there were some bugs, that Samp did not really support this and tempo and stuff were not handled correctly. Midi clips in place - but they did not open correctly for a project with the tempo given.

So far not seeing 50 dollars worth and, more importantly to me, enough updates to warrant a 0.5 version change.
Hoping there is more stuff underneath that hasn't been discovered by the brave early adopters.
That said, at least with Artist, it is 50 dollars per 0.5 upgrade. So, even if one skips this version, they're still paying 100 dollars to go from 8->9.

True, but you could also pay the 50 dollars for the .5 upgrade and keep the serial until the end of next year to use the grace period update - then you will get 9 for free included, as long as you don't register .5 until then.VitaminD wrote:So far not seeing 50 dollars worth and, more importantly to me, enough updates to warrant a 0.5 version change.

Did that myself for the Pro version before, and it worked flawlessly

Why is an opinion wrong on already leaked facts?zvenx wrote:Surprise surprise the usual suspect et. al have already formed an opinion before even knowing the full feature set or trying it.
The manual is now available as well. So let's sum it up:
sempondr wrote:From Steinberg forum:

- Folders
- Retrologue 2
- MediaBay have received a small makeover.
- Transport as well.
- Retina Ready!
- Punch in/out recording
- Pre/Post-roll
Soo.... nothing groundbreaking really, as the second quote is just a more detailed explanation of the already leaked infos.lfm (mentioning the manual) wrote:EDIT: What seems to be new:

Punch in/out and pre/post roll got slightly overhauled - you can now set separate points (according to manual) - on that behalf, the Transport Bar got a new design. So three points down already.
Retrologue 2 is nothing to really rage about - unless you're an "all-in-house" software user, and the "VST Cloud" is still confusing documented.
Of course, Steinberg will make a huge fuzz out of this release and present it as "essential features that could only be implemented now" and are now "huge time savers" (as if working with Cubase before was totally crippled - oh wait...). It's like the .5 release for Cubase 7, where there was the most hype about "bundled VST Plugins" rather than actual features as well.
Sorry - but to me, Cubase 8 was a failure. And the "patching" (not improving/overhauling IMO) that has been done up until this point is just a quick money grab. Again - personal opinion and all.
Don't agree with me - totally fine. However, I spoke with my wallet. And I will continue to do so. Unless Steinberg FORCES me to upgrade again to "stay with the family" (happened several times at this point), yet I do consider "family" to be something else. Like... listening to actual feature requests, fixing issues first rather than fixing it with a paid upgrade only, etc.
But again... YMMV.
In the meantime, I enjoy my bugs in C7.5, get sh*t done either way and wait until C9 arrives - or WL9 (whatever hits sooner, in hope that it's more usable again as well)
