"Seriously, i don't get this negative attitude, especially when you scratch the surface, read a sentence about the new features, maybe watch a video, but don't know what the update is really about, and what it can do for you, because you haven't tried it. If there was constructive criticism, fair enough, but the way i see it, this is just pointless negativism. I fail to believe that the people who use Reason professionally do a facepalm, and dismiss every new version, because it doesn't give them what they need. They simply use the program, and embrace what is in there, and embrace what's in the next version. WTH is this first world negativism about everything about? Just don't get it.
Exactly. But see you don't hear the constant bitching and disappointment in upgrade threads outside of Reason right? I mean, unless of course you count Studio One. And maybe Pro Tools. But then I guess you'd have to include Ableton. And possibly Sonar. For that matter the Samp ProX2 thread was pretty ugly. Tracktion users werent happy either with 7. Poor FL Studio took a lot of forum heat over the version 12 upgrade also. Cubase and Digital Performer both got torched in there respective threads over recent updates. Come to think of it, reading these forums, one would have to conclude that all DAW's are "behind". Im with chk071 on this one. Music production software gives us advantages that music makers only 20 years ago would kill to have. I wonder what they would say if they read the constant complaining that goes on about DAW's and there terrible lack of features? Haha ...That being said, this update looks great and I'm sure tons of Reason users are going to love making music with this new stuff :phones:
Windows 10 PC. Reason. Cubase. Waveform. Reaper. Studio One Pro. Epiphone Les Paul Pro II. Nektar Panorama t4. Yamaha RBX Bass. Faderport 2. Eris E5 Monitors. SSL2 Interface. Audient Evo 4. AKG C214. Aston Origin. MXL 990.

Seriously, i highly doubt that the typical user base is disapointed about the new updates, or the software at all. It's just nay sayers on the net, which think they're the majority, and the "general user" type, while they're just a moaning minority. I'm sorry, someone has to say it. It's just ridiculous. Look at the fkn sales figures of Propellerhead. It's there for everyone to see. Enough said really. No update in the world will make the nay sayers on the net cheer up, it's just not possible.

The only thing I don't like is when literally EVERYONE is interested in something that is pretty doable (considering it's been done) and it's not.

Now, looks like no PDC stuff which sucks loads of ass. But if the abe's can do it, the props can do it :hihi: So that's the only "disappointment" for me.

Except when PHeads updates the RE SDK version only for version 9 and above. I'm a 6.5 user and there's about 15% of the REs I can purchase because the rest say "Please Upgrade Reason First".

This update once again show me PHeads don't care about existing users, it's all about getting first-time people to buy a new copy. Can't play a keyboard? No problem, the new devices will do it for you. Can't sing? No problem, just fix the pitch in the new interface. Sure these would be useful to seasoned musicians but let's be honest: the start of the video even compared making music to listening to it.

The average cost of a RE utility (MIDI/CV) in the store is around $10-$30. That means those three devices are worth somewhere between $30 and $90. I personally would value them around $60. If you think the rest is worth about $70 go for it.

I'm once again disappointed in what once was a quirky and fun cabling playground. Maybe it is time to just let go of Reason and get a copy of Reaktor or Bitwig (when they do the whole "DAW modular" thing they keep promising).

Can you ReWire and use all those midi thingamagees?

No. Reason can only act as a ReWire slave. This allows you to send and receive audio signals and to only receive midi, not transmit it out.

You could install something like http://www.midiox.com/ on windows or natively in os x http://www.johanlooijenga.com/tools/12- ... ports.html . Then you can route midi using the external midi device from Reason 7+ to your DAW. However, in this mode you likely won't be able to open your audio interface with both your DAW and with Reason, so it'll have to be a MIDI only standalone application.

You might be able to combine these two approaches and use ReWire for audio and midi out for the new devices but I don't know how well this will work as I don't have R7 to test external MIDI capabilities.

well at least their may sale is starting, crossing my fingers they will drop the price of rig bundle upgrades along with the rigs, but I doubt it

carlosedp wrote:What kind of "sequencer, piano roll and blocks enhancements"? Can you list suggestions?
Track folders, alias clips, clip loop, ghost notes, show only velocities for selected key in drum edit, automation curves, better zooming, smart tool and probably a lot of other smaller workflow improvements.
carlosedp wrote:I don't know why having auto-crossfades but different curves like protools might be useful to some. I also believe you can just drop your MIDI file into any track.
Nope, dropping a MIDI file creates a new track and a device. So you have to delete both and move the clip where you'd want it. No huge deal though, but pointless method.
carlosedp wrote:NN-19, NN-XT, Kong and Redrum are already "some sort" of ezdrummer/Kontakt as they are all samplers and do their job perfectly.
I agree. Great devices. Unfortunately not supported by the big sample libraries. No big deal for me, but I know it is for others. And Redrum needs an update. Or leave it and make a new drum pattern sequencer, something like Guru/Geist or iZotope BreakTweaker.
carlosedp wrote:I don't understand why people like to bash on upgrades to try to justify to themselves that the current product they own don't do it's tasks.

People need to be creative and actually use or find a different way to use the tools you have. If I want Propellerhead to release a feature "identical" to Kontakt, why not use Kontakt itself?
Agree about the bashing. The things people bash are the same things other applaud. But it's all about workflow. The same would go for pitch editing. Why add it when you can rewire to another host which includes Melodyne/pitch edit.

Although I think this is a good update for people who need the things it brings, this update doesn't do much for me. I don't need pitch edit and I already got an arp and AutoTheory. So I think I'll skip this update and wait for 10. Unfortunately I know that Reason development is really slow so it'll probably be 1.5-2 years to the next update. And I'm afraid it'll be the same story again, only a couple of interesting things. Studio One on the other hand is taking huge leaps in every update.

If only the SDK was developed faster. Again, the progress is so incredible slow. I wonder if the SDK team is one man. If it supported sample loading, patterns, switchable panels etc. we would probably see some incredible 3rd party devices. It's now 4 years since the SDK was first released. How much update has it had in these years? Not much.

@chk071

Welluh, the Proppies are worth about $1.2 billion and they lost about $100,000,000 (7.29%) last year.
Happy now?

To me the update looks great. The Melodyne like pitch editor would be worth the update alone for Reason only users.

Does anybody use Audio to MIDI? It never worked for me in Ableton Live, too many pitch and timing issues. It was always faster to play the melodies in with the keyboard.

Looks like a good update for serious Reason users.
Of course $99 would be nicer than $129, but hey ho.

How about providing some links to back your claims instead of just throwing them out?

Btw, here's another thread on the topic: http://www.reasontalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7491207 The prophets of doom are everywhere you see.

Here is a couple of sources, but need to pay to get full info:

I just can't understand that Props are worth over 9 Billion SEK, they have this unassuming office at Hornstull, I have passed by it many times, just a small plaque on the wall, no big EDM bar/reception to get users excited :D
