Someone saw my post and offered to buy Absynth 3 from me so transfer in progress. Hopefully the new user will give Absynth more love than I have.........

At least the update to Absynth 5 will be free thanks to NI price policy (contrary to Waves WUP and others).

Have I made an error? AFAIK these updates are free... But if I missed something I apologize!

I have to add that I have Komplete Ultimate and its updates cost something but contains ALL of NI Komplete products. When you skip every second version update and wait for a summer or BF sale you get this update for a quarter of one regular one.
Maintenance updates (maybe only within one version) are free via Native Access.
