Not sure why people always have to exaggerate that much... your point is clear. No need to exaggerate hard to make it bigger than it is.
I’ve made two calls with Steinberg support, and each time I’ve waited way more than 2-3 weeks, even for an initial answer (apart from the automated one). And each time I have been way more competent at debugging the problem than support. To be fair, though, in the end it wasn’t always a cubase problem, which probably happens quite often, often problems are caused by plugins or system configurations.

It's not sexy. More like old, fat and hairy perv of daws.

the biggest problem i've found with pretty much any DAW is "the people using them."

in all seriousness. i know there are some guys like ramses b that use cubase. but i still feel its for peeps that make more "traditional" music genres like rock, pop, and use a lot of real instruments and recording. the old skule crowd.

for musicians that are pushing envelopes with synth based recording and sound design, it seems ableton is where its at. Flume uses it. so do people like holly hendron and imogen heap.

Since Cubase 9 they added Sampler Tracks.
This adds some cool capabilities for sound design.
Generally DAWs are not genre specific, especially when you get into the higher end DAWs with considerable capabilities like Cubase.

Live is kind of a paradox. Thanks to Max integration, and due to the fact that many avant-garde musicians and composers were already using Max, Live was presented like the "natural" DAW for them.

And since Ableton bought Cycling'74, that integration will probably become tighter each year.

So, Live is for DJs and "producers" (I hate this terminology - better "loop and beat based people"), as well as for avant-garde musicians (these because of the mentioned Max integration), while composers with more traditional approach (if you wish) tend to use more things like Cubase and Digital Performer.

Cubase' Sample Tracks function is quite underwhelming. Steinberg could have learned from Ableton's Simpler how to do this right.

i dont think agree with this. i think workflow is a big thing when it comes to DAWs. "if* I were an EDM music maker and had no need to record real instruments much, I would prbly just use FL or Ableton. Just my 2 cents.

And maybe they will. They already showed they can learn and make advancements in many areas.

i can do sounddesign in cubase (pro 10.5.x). with an arsenal of third party plugins.
yes it seems like cubase is more for traditional recording, i.e. a "real" studio.
but still i can do a lot, a lot in cubase and what it can't do, many plugins can do.....

i also own ableton live 10 suite, simpler is course better than the sampler in cubase. but the sampler i sometimes use, it is pretty basic, but it works. i make my own samples, recording, editing, etc.
my last track, not finished yet, was a project that problably, i use the session view first of ableton, i did in ableton.
but experimented with cubase. worked great, workflow great, overview. automation is much better in cubase.

i have also maschine, and reason 10.

maschine always ends up as plugin in cubase. reason 10 as rewire...

perhaps the "carefull" choosing of third party plugins, that also are (semi-)modular. i can't feel restrained by cubase.

in a way i have learned sketching in cubase, via ableton and maschine. of course i already did that, before i owned them, but it has sharpened my techniques.

i like cubase, it is problably because i am so used to cubase. the workflow for me, personal, is great. and with the deep integration of the MCU, mixing is so "easy" (i have a MCU, the 2003 version...).

but ableton can do things, i can't do in in cubase, the stock devices, and the devices i have for M4L (i slowly learning M4L, but i wonder if really go so deep).

but i have also soft-modulars, voltage modular, reaktor, and MXXXCore (with a lot of melda plugins), i like working them better in cubase. not that i don't use them in others DAW's.

i shall never say, cubase i will use forever, but at this time, i can't miss cubase.

Huh?! Maybe the international support is pretty fast, but the german support is slow as hell. I sent a ticket in november 2019 and the answer came on the 4th of may in 2020. Yeah great . I have studio one as well and bitwig 8-track , that support both of them replied in 1-2 days , compared to steinberg it is lightning fast. But also several people in the german recording.de forum complaining about the long delay answers. Guess what hint they gave? Try to phone the support , it is 2 hours availabe from monday until friday 10-12 a.m. ! But on thursday it is 3 hours open! Yeah, great service :dog:

One thing i have to say about the dongle: it is running flawlessly since Cubase 7, and that is 5 years or longer i think.
