Very nice. Several times I have demoed a plugin with like a 7 day trial and then ended up getting busy during the time period. I think I'll try this out.PetVor wrote: Thu Jul 01, 2021 11:28 amYes, this is correct. Try it and purchase only if you are convinced.

For the kind of stuff I like to work on, Abyss is a gem so far. As-billed, it's low-CPU and I have an older system. The sound quality is very good.
We shall see orchestral machines with a thousand new sounds, with thousands of new euphonies, as opposed to the present day's simple sounds of strings, brass, and woodwinds. -- George Antheil, circa 1925 ---

Got it. It only took me 30 minutes to convince, great untuitive spacy synth. Making epic soundscapes or pads is so easy in Abyss, really love the sound and it's surprising cpu-low. It's even better in combination with the Roli Seaboard. Hopefully there will be nice updates in the future.

I hope this demystifies the technology. There will be an "ask me anything" livestream on Wednesday 7th July - feel free to join and ask more questions!

I promise: there definitely will be nice updates in the future!MADMANJ wrote: Thu Jul 01, 2021 8:02 pm Got it. It only took me 30 minutes to convince, great untuitive spacy synth. a) there will be artist preset packs
b) there will be nice features that expand the sonic possibilities, while keeping the UI as clean and intuitive as it is now
So stay tuned ...

Yes, and AFAIK all Tracktion products have a 90 day demo.

Some things I am missing:
Random. The noise wave forms are fixed, not random. At least a button to create a new noise sample would be great.
I would like to have the parameters of the envelopes to be automatable, then I could also modulate them in Bitwig...
If you got that, I want the peak of the envelope be changeable. That is important for expressive (MPE) playing, as you want velocity to only affect the attack phase of the sound, the sustain you would control with aftertouch. I know there are only very old synths that can do that (DX 7, CZ 101) and all others miss out on it. Though some have a MSEG which should be able to tackle that. But nothing is wrong with being the first. I would call it APDSR envelope.
This isn't a critique at all, it so much fun with what is there already...

Not a critique: I got two ideas to add, a timbre editor, where we can generate timbres and sample timbres from audio files in rapid numbers. Also, preset(s) generators. Thanks, just a ideaTj Shredder wrote: Fri Jul 02, 2021 3:06 pm Some things I am missing:

it uses machine ID, for offline mostly, it works with -how is it called- can't get the term now..c_voltage wrote: Sat Jul 03, 2021 1:08 am Hmm enoughly liked it. I think need grab.

you enter email and password for the site, challenge and response, yes, me thinks.
it makes contact...
but you see nothing in your account, so is it c & r?
so the activation is online, can also be offline. de-authorization, as you call it, i never saw it.
EDIT: bought Abyss, couldn't.. resist.. next to Biotek 2 and Spacecraft, also MPE, great synths, special synths...

Hey, thank you again for reaching out and catching the typos - corrected now - will be in the next update!Vortifex wrote: Sat Jul 03, 2021 11:35 am Giving the demo a whirl. First impressions, typos everywhere but they can easily be fixed. I initially found it quite hard to get something useable out of it but with some effort it can make some nice sounds. CPU is much better than any granular synth.
Seems like a lot of repetition with the tones to choose from. I found the same female choir "ahh" sound at least 4 times along the bottom of the selection, and many others seem to be slightly muted versions of other tones. I didn't find the chorded tones useful as I prefer to make my own chords.
Edit: On further investigation the issue I had isn't an issue. Also the more I've used it the more I've come to appreciate it. It's a really cool piece of software.
And you are right ... the chorded tones seem less useful on first glance ... but actually I believe they can be a real gem - when used in conjunction with the DETAIL slider!
I made a mini-mini tutorial here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CQ37Hzfhe0w/
Choose a chorded tone colour and reduce the DETAIL ... there is a sweet spot, where the ear no longer perceives the sound as a chord, but as a beautiful timbre. One application is to take variations of the same (chorded) timbre and with different level of detail. High detail for the attack, lower detail for the sustain and release.
The other application is to choose different chorded timbres, reduce the DETAIL to the liking and explore the sweet blended timbres inbetween. This can give very nuanced sounds, and is also great for bells, gongs and such. You can go even further by also changing the DETUNE and/or PITCH of some of the tone colours to create ever so slight dissonances ...
Of course - this is a question of taste - and not everyone may like these kind of sounds!
