What is shown in that video is HALion (or HALion Sonic) running the library. The controls are from the Library Macro (that's what makes it "FM Lab"). What I can't tell you is if you are able to create presets using just FM Lab running in HALion Sonic. But it may be the case.nominil wrote: Thu Feb 16, 2023 3:55 pmThat's what the blurb on Synth Anatomy seemed to say, but the page on Steinberg's site makes it look like a standalone, fully-programmable instrument: https://www.steinberg.net/vst-instruments/fm-lab/fmr wrote: Thu Feb 16, 2023 3:34 pmFM Lab is a library of presets entirely made using the FM part of the current HALion engine. It doesn't work standalone, only inside HALion (and HALion Sonic, I presume).nominil wrote: Thu Feb 16, 2023 3:24 pm Sorry if this has already been answered elsewhere and I missed it: Is FM Lab a standalone version of Halion 7's FM Zone? That's the impression I get but am not sure. I'm really only interested in that as I don't use samples much.

I don't think there is any improvement.

This can only mean that in a future update there will be something just like DrumGAN found in Backbone!fmr wrote: Wed Feb 15, 2023 2:44 pm • Additional new features: 10 new effects, Decompose, X-LFO, Chord export from Trigger Pads, impulse response import and the new Oscilloscope
Halion 7 is already doing a great job when it comes to this, as seen in the new demo videos, but with something like the Backbone feature DrumGAN added to Halion it will be even better!

Yes, kinda. It is wrapped in a macro page for easier access to effects, modulation and other parameters. It works inside the free halion sonic 7.nominil wrote: Thu Feb 16, 2023 3:24 pm Sorry if this has already been answered elsewhere and I missed it: Is FM Lab a standalone version of Halion 7's FM Zone? Also, halion sonic 7 has a free subtractive synth built in

And there are also some nice free pianos shown here at the bottom:

I think what he was trying to clarify is if it would allow the creation of user presets, as any regular synth. Inside HALion I know I can, but is it possible also inside the free HALion Sonic 7?tekknovator wrote: Thu Feb 16, 2023 4:33 pm Yes, kinda. Right on. That's what I was trying to understand. I'm going to contact Steinberg to verify after I look over the manual for FM Lab.fmr wrote: Thu Feb 16, 2023 4:36 pmI think what he was trying to clarify is if it would allow the creation of user presets, as any regular synth. That IS an improvement. Look at all those tiiiiiny icons in my screenshot. They're not there. So they reshuffled the layout. Nice!billcarroll wrote: Thu Feb 16, 2023 4:18 pmok, so this should be what you're looking for from HALion 7

Upgraded to HALion 7 a few hours ago and I’m currently exploring the new features in this major version. For what I’ve already seen this upgrade is significant. I’m very surprised by the FM lab.

FM Lab is a very cool FM synth indeed and the new spectral resynthesis is an improved version of the engine found in Padshop. Great update!

How's the wavetable synthesis and the overall sound coming out of Halion 7 compared to other popular VSTs such as ones from u-he and Dune 3?
