jamcat wrote: Mon Oct 02, 2023 1:12 am I really like the new "click wallpaper to reveal desktop" feature. Though I'm not too keen on the new Sonoma wallpaper theme. So far those are the only differences I can tell. I guess there's some widgets.

widgets!?

what was the concern in the first place? There was no major change with Sonoma that would have even caused compatibility issues.

UFX with no problems, also have a FF800 running with no problems either [except for the initial complaint that the firmware needs updating- which I have tried on a number of computers to do without success].
Not enough time or talent.

Great. The problem is not the RME drivers per se but the extra hoops you have to jump through on Mx chips to get them installed. In the last 2 MacOs versions this involved going into Recovery mode to select ‘Reduced Security’ but if Apple ever close off that workaround then the hardware will no longer work

speaking of applications that absolutely are per OS strictly, eg. was OnyX, its Sonoma version is ready. A day or two before Sonoma final I read their website saying it'd be 10-15 days after the release. AFAIC this tends to mean not a lot of difference, Sonoma from Ventura.

I haven't dealt with drivers on Mac in forever, but drivers should be installed to /Library/Extensions as /System/Library/Extensions is extremely locked down. RME may just need to update their installer for proper locations and permissions.

Also, I suspect the special drivers are for hardware configuration only. Do these interfaces work nominally if just plugged in without drivers?

Anyway, I took my first gander at Sonoma today. Aside from the login screen, it looks like nothing has really changed. Hopefully, this is the High Sierra to Sierra. Or, the Snow Leopard to Leopard. :D
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better? :(

I gotta be honest, I looked at the page before release and there was pretty much nothing I thought I'd want or need over Ventura.

no worries; some of us just prefer speed improvements, better security, stability, app enhancements, etc... and/or just like to move forward .

It's based on reading about the "new" features. Widgets? Seriously? Will they never die? Use a website like an application? There are a couple of minor features that some people may find interesting. The only truly good new feature is the Game Mode if it can kill off all those CPU-hungry background tasks that only seen to run while I'm trying to mix.

But, all in all, a very milquetoast update.
