Clearly they designed the UI for iOS and then just used it for desktop. Terrible design.

Nothing, really, except for its character, which is pretty unique. I put it up against a bunch of synths with Moog filters, and none of them were remotely like it, including a hardware Moog filter clone.
Its a bit wild for my taste. I dont like the presets, but I am not a preset guy anyway. I can see how this can be interesting.
I wasn’t paying attention to CPU usage, but if it’s as high as people are saying, then it’s a total pass for sure. I think it sounds interesting, but the UI is a s-show, the lack of voices for the CPU is odd, and the lack of any FM is an oversight. At least it’s cheap.

2023 and people still watching CPU. Maybe Im spoiled with the M1/2/3 macs.

I expected it to be the first commercial trash product under the new umbrella, but it sounds very good and authentic Moog !
Kind of Sub Phatty / Subsequent flavor.

Sorry if there are person who doesn’t own a new Mac 😂
Personally I bought an M2 but was such a pain in the ass with Rosetta and all the other stuffs that I prefer to return windows because it suits more my workflow.

The synth is optimized with the feet. That’s a fact. A duophonic voice synth using the power utilized by Forza Motorsport 8 to run at 1440p😜.

Come on. It is worth then the optimization made by AA😜😂😂

Btw it runs with now problem both on my IPad Pro 2018 and on my IPad Pro M2 with 3 % cpu usage difference.

I can’t believe it can’t run smooth on Windows.

It must be something not optimized.

In the balsey synths department, this woman holds its own place, sounds really good. CPU hit on m1 Pro is quite low. And since you only need 1 or two of these running in parallel for the most of the time (since they take a lot of space vertical and horizontal space), I would say it's well worth it. It supports MPE, has extensive modulation system where lots of parameters can be modulated with any midi or modulator source. I would say this is a great little synth to enjoy playing with. I like also the resizible UI, would be nice if it would restore its previous size upon reload, but it's not a show stopper. As someone who likes the moog sound, I dare to say it's well worth at least a try, if nothing else. Crap that you have to create another account for it, I really hope one day they'll come up with some standard for having single account authenticate you on most systems.

Well… when the system can’t do much more after loading just an instance, maybe cpu is a concern.
Maybe my Macbook Air is a “low end entry level” for the M1 line, but the cpu load is noticeable even on such machine.

If a plugin sounds really good, then it’s worth considering getting a new more powerful pc, it’s the same old story… I remeber when Diva appeared, my pc at the time couldn’t really handle it… I don’t know if Moog Mariana needs some code optimization or if the cpu load is actually needed, anyway it’s a fact that it requires more power than average and it’s on the heavy side for current machines.

A M1 doesn’t cut well enough in this case, I’m afraid I’d need a more powerful computer unless I resort to freezing tracks (which is always an option, albeit not so desiderable). But things will move on to more powerful computers, eventually. It’s just an heavy synth for the current times.
free multisamples (last upd: 22th May 2021).

Works fine low cpu on my M1 mac mini, Abletons CPU use barely shows with Mariana on a track......
Ableton Live 12/Push 3/Roland Juno X & TR-1000/Sequential Pro3se/Waldorf Iridium Core/Empress Reverb/Boss PX-1

same with me..but even worse.... when i start this thing dsp jumps to 90+%
iam on win 10 and bitwig5... enough power to run xxx vst without any problems...

charlesalbert wrote: Tue Dec 05, 2023 10:07 pm I have pretty much every soft synths in the market.
Spacing from Diva to Generate, from Arturia Emulation to Synplant 2 etc..

Now I am at home, with my gaming pc, not my music pc but not so bad.

Audio Card Scarlet, win 11 latest version, 32 gb ddr5 ram, i59600k, rtx3090, latency with Asia set to 1024 ms, at 44100hz.

Mariana 40% starting preset;
Generate 17%
UA MOOG 7%
Softube Model 72 10%

Never saw before on this machine a synth that alone goes out of 30%.

A mono synth…

Just to close the circle I tested Mariana with my working pc with Intel i9-13900. Just loading the vst in FL Studio 21 it uses 20% of cpu power.

What userbase did they aim? NASA scientists?

I've spent 6.5 K assembly that pc and my wife still try to kill me sometimes for wasting money;-) and it barely can handle 1 instance of a duophonic bass synth.... when my old 2018 Ipad Pro run smooth 4 instances of it?...

Might get iOS version as it still works on desktop as au3

The high CPU load for at least WinOS users is very intimidating. 20% on the latest i9 - what do some people do with older i7 & i5?...

A bit confused (at least for me) somehow - there are 2 layers, but only the first layer has delay, the second has no delay but chorus? That's somehow impractical, especially with sounds that are built with both layers, if only part of the sound has delay, for example... or am I making a mistake?

Don’t know yet but their others do (in fact they are among the only ones that actually work properly used as au3 on desktop MacOs)

well it does feature fulll (virtual) CV-connectivity with the moogerfoger plugins, which is sick.
