I would imagine especially as components age, differences could get drastic especially with 40-50 year old synths. Most times failed components will be noticeable but marginal components might not be.

I wonder if this is some of people's complaints as I would guess a company like Uhe or Arturia is generally using serviced synths in near perfect shape.

Sometimes I will hear posts like vst a sounds nothing like the hardware when someone else claims they barely can tell the difference.
Part of the problem is that familiarity creates a new perception. I remember meeting identical twins when I was a child and thinking, “how could anyone ever tell them apart?” A few days later I was thinking, “why do people think they’re identical?”

This is true about a lot of things. I can tell a difference between different batches of my favorite coffee. A good friend just buys his coffee at Dunkin Donuts and is fine with it. I once tried a really expensive scotch that I thought was like every other scotch I’d ever had, and hated.

Everything depends on what you’re interested in. If you’re super interested in a Prophet 5 r3, Repro’s probably not going to do it for you, but if you’re a casual fan, it could be enough. I tend to think of Repro as something unique, so I’m more concerned with if I think I like it. Because I don’t like a synth without velocity and aftertouch, I’m unburdened by the need for it to be an exact emulation. That said, it seems to get very close.

So for me it's not "oh, guess it's supposed to be this way!" but rather "no shi*? guess I don't like the original hardware, either!"
Possibly.. I guess I rarely buy an emulation without knowing the hardware.. the few exceptions are like knifonium and I am sure there are others I can't think of right now.

It was only a couple of months ago when young men overcome with gearlust fell head over heels for this sexy GForce OB-X. Any questions about demo limitations were quickly swept aside. In their eagerness to tie the knot, some flaws were overlooked. But now the honeymoon is over. The blushing young bride that they fell for, now looks more like an annoying hag with wonky envelopes.

Divorce proceedings are being initiated and the endless cycle will begin again:

- Love at first sight, buy now!, oh wait -- this plugin kinda sucks, sell. :P

I have P5 rev4 and also Repro so I can compare myself. I’m not blown away to be frank but I appreciate that Repro emulates an earlier revision which I have no experience with. What I am not blown away with in the plugin is the extremes like audio rate modulation.
When I compared Repro-1 to my real Pro One it was close enough in most cases to be interchangeable and a lot less finicky. Pro One vs P5 rev4 was not easy at all.

OP says Repro's audio rate modulation isn't as good as P5 rev4's. Did you experience this compared to your Pro One?

Full recap, including the audiopath i guess. Personally i like the bad ones, this sounds too modern for me.

I'd have to go back and do it again tbh. Been awhile since I did that comparison. But for Pro One vs. P5 I just remember it being very hard to dial in a lot of different types of sounds.

They’re close, it might be better.

Dunno. But I do know comparing stuff does not really make people happy.. does it?
