One thing I notice on the ANA demo is that the gain is a bit aliasy, and in Dune and other modern wavetable type things, it's clean all the way up. What I'd love to see in Dune is for HQ versions of the filter distortion effects to get added, like they did for the distortion in the FX Busses. Still, they're pretty good, especially for gritty bass duties.

Oscillators are available as modulation sources in the mod matrix. You have to set the quality to "Audio Rate," if you want the smallest amount of artifacts, but it's OK. I feel like it used to be better... not sure what happened, but I notice that even if you've got it set to the best quality, there's still a fair amount of noticeable artifacts if you play a note above C4 and you're doing something like using oscillator 2 to modulate the filter cutoff. You can minimize it by being modest with your amounts.
What oscillator waveform are you using for the modulation source?
Wavetables for DUNE2/3, Blofeld, IL Harmor, Hive and Serum etc: http://charlesdickens.neocities.org/

I like to user a sawtooth as the source and a square wave an octave down as the modulation. It's a really tough sound, great for aggressive bass.

Dune 3 can sread out like no other but really that just introduces phase issues all over the pace. If I could keep only one it would be Spire.....only cause the plucks are just sooooo jucy.
Oh boy, I was checking out some plucks on Ana 2 and they are fantastic as well! Better in ways.

I'm super into Dune 3 as well. Anything out there that can do dual arp?

Back to Ana 2. The arp/seq combination is just extraordinary. I absolutely live it. Killer underrated sound has, it's easily one of the best sounding synths out there...

ANA2 has noticeable aliasing, especially when pulse width is small. Twenty years ago that would be accetable. Today this catapults this plugin into low cost product range. When the price is 70% off again I'll probably grab it and it will be still an okayish deal.

Hopefully they can upgrade it in an update and make it better.

Whatever aliasing is there in Ana doesn't bother me at all. I think it's the best sounding synth I have (I have many). I think that anti-aliasing can make synths sound a little more dull sometimes (my theory with arturia), so I don't mind if a synth has a bit. Maybe I just like the brightness of all those hardware VA's that could have a tad of aliasing but sounded great.

Interesting thought, re anti-aliasing. There is definitely something I don't like about a lot of Arturia synths' sound, maybe that's what it is?

So don't use it where aliasing is a problem. To dismiss the whole thing because of one small area where it's not quite as good at other things is cutting off your nose to spite your face. That said, we use ANA quite a bit and I've never noticed any aliasing at all, not that it's a thing I go looking for.

I remember when poly-Ana introduced a new anti-aliasing technique to reduce aliasing without having to set the oversampling high (to save cpu). It generally sounded ok but killed the vibe of a bunch of patches. Gave them a dull Arturia-ish sound. And Arturia always bragged about their TAE anti-aliasing so I’ve always thought maybe that’s what gives them their not so bright character.

You are right, often the aliasing won't be a problem! Also it does only occure in very specific settings and given the sonic possibilities it is really more of a minor issue.
Correcting it would be still a good idea (should be possible without making the sound dull by using IFFT). I have also taken a look at the additionally available patches. It's quite a huge library of really cool additional sounds!

Really? Outside Sonic Academy banks? Those are quite expensive. I am always looking for an entity with a plethora of ANA 2 presets. Vicious Antelope is a nice sound designer, but only one so far.

I ment those from Sonic Academy. I think they aren't expensive. But as there are a lot available it will sum up of course... I am the type of person who purchases only in a sale anyway.
