It was 80 back then/ You may have had a discount, either a sale of through bundle cohmpletion (we offer those to Ohmboyz Infinity owner)medienhexer wrote: Wed Jul 09, 2025 5:41 pm I think I paid about 50 bucks for version 1. Upgrading for 80 seems a bit steep.
If you always want cheap upgrades but don't factor in their frequency what you tell publisher is that we should do yearly 15€ upgrades. Which some do. We didn't. Instead we did 9 years of updates for zero euros for the first ohmicide (last update was 2016).

Silicon update was a year ago for ohmboyz∞ and our free frohmager. AFAICR there has been no (zero) support cases related to silicon.machinesworking wrote: Wed Jul 09, 2025 7:01 pm You all need to to read what he said in full, "until this point" means that he's not happy they waited this long to support M1, not that this just released product doesn't support M1.
Sorry you feel that way.machinesworking wrote: Wed Jul 09, 2025 7:06 pm I'm more than mildly disappointed with Ohm Force in general, having owned their All All bundle for years. Now, even being that customer, they expect to charge near full price for a remake of one of the plugins of theirs I own that they abandoned years ago. They get regulated to the trash bin of history for me, having your company go through a rough period is one thing, turning around and expecting loyalty and giving none is another. Less than a year from now this will be 50% off, this is not a sustainable business model.
I am not sure what you mean by "giving none" though. What is it that you feel we should have done that we didn't? We offered the legacy versions for everyone, refunded everyone who has had a bad experience with their purchase of ohmboyz∞ early access, released a free plugin for everyone, and spend in general 6+ years doing all of those things, new framework for plugins, redesigning them, patches, updated website etc.
It doesn't because we replaced it with the Macros² system. Arguably it's not the same, but we found out Melohman to be too rigid for hardcore users and too conceptual for the majority. Macros² are way more convenient to edit (at least in our experience) and ultimately provide more control, at least for effects. We may revisit use of keyboard as an input some day though.
Not everyone from the ohmicide era is still here but as it turns out, not only am I but I am the one responsible for all the design decisions you listed there. The "no tabs" ohmicide (for which a lot of people fairly complained that it was (inevitably) cluttered back then): my push. Melohman: my idea. Using tabs finally? My idea since ohmboyz∞ although it was a no brainer when we did symptohm. Replacing Melohman by macros²? Yup, entirely my decision.fceramic wrote: Wed Jul 09, 2025 9:35 pm I think the remaining Ohm Force people missed what made their original plugins so appealing - the single-page interfaces and the perfect balance between complexity and limitations.
Both Ohmboyz Infinite and this are just not fun to use. They feel clunky, a lot more clicking and too much crucial information hidden away in tabs. Also Melohman was a fantastic feature in the OGs, super creative and a great way to automate between patches.
Luckily Frohmager is still one page and a blast to use.
This isn't to say you're wrong (although if you can sympathise with the side of my job that is that there are always users for who your latest tool isn't as pleasing to the hand as the previous was, I'll take it). In fact I agonized on the decision of going back to tab with ohmicide|S| (EDIT: don't try typing ohmicide with bracket around the S on kvr is what I've learned today), in no small part because I insisted not to have those for ohmicide (they were all the rage back then), worked hard to make a UI that handled that concentration of controllers, was flamed for this 6 months long effort in forums like this one... so yeah. I like no tabs. I fought for no tabs.
But also, when you start to say you want this new cool routing, involving 3 new bands, each with 6 more parameters, tough luck but tabs are mandatory.
So Green and I worked hard to make the best of it. Turns out than when splitted bands are also the way to select tabs and you want that to be available at all times, as well as bypass/solo/mute (oh yeah we added bypass, 7 more parameters per band, my bad) things are quite tricky. We found a way for this. We also implemented mouse wheel between bands (don't know if somebody else did that in their UI but I use it all the time now). Also there is a copy paste feature between bands.
There is no question that this requires some getting used to for people who have used the previous one (which I did more than most). I am super comfortable with it now (and I spend my days with it over the last 6 months), more than I even was with ohmboyz∞ (because the mouse wheel wasn't there until recently, but even so it has two rows of tabs with taps and delays which makes it less smooth to navigate with it).
Thank youXbucket wrote: Wed Jul 09, 2025 9:59 pm I downloaded the demo and had to buy it short after. Lots of great algorithms and lots of options. And it seems to never sound bad which is kind of rare in distortion realms. It’s a steep update price but I am sure they had lots of work with this and as it’s not a plugin everybody would need or buy I think it’s not unusual to have a higher price. But this is where everybody needs to decide on his own.
No one owe us kind words which is what make them so motivating when we read them.
About pricing we deliberately *under*priced it. We always worked in comparison with what we think are the best competitors - to me now that would still be Fabfilter Saturn that is 129€ ie 30% more expensive.
We think we're delivering a better value, so selling cheaper was a very conscious decision.
One of the reason is that they have this angle of selling bundles so their pricing is about upping single item so that bundles offer bigger discounts. Our current bundle is meager (with 2 plugins) so we can't do that, which also means individual price should be more accessible as it concerns more buyer.
And for what it's worth, for me who does music (oddly enough) outside of my day job that would be too expensive so I understand. I'd like to sell our stuff below the 50€ bar straight, but it's impossible to make a living at that price range for that time of development vs that pool of potential buyer. DAW popularity capped at a certain level vs the general public and this is the market we're all living in.
It is how this market has evolved, yes. Crazy sales on a regular basis. Some customer prioritise time, some other money. When it comes to video games I certainly am in the second group so I get the idea^^.Greenstorm33 wrote: Wed Jul 09, 2025 11:09 pm Well, for this one I’ve gotta say that Ohm Force has really earned…

This is an issue some people have and we're on it. As usual the first wave of buyers reveal issues that were invisible during testing.hey212 wrote: Thu Jul 10, 2025 3:52 am It sounds awesome, but the knob control is unbelievably annoying. You mean for waves shaping of for modulation? Both would be cool but we have this approach of "modulate everything" which gets difficult with item like curves that have a variable number of points. It would be cool though. It's certainly food for thoughts .Ah_Dziz wrote: Thu Jul 10, 2025 11:05 am Is there a user transfer curve? If they're gonna make it full of tabs they should add that.
In your case at least there was an error on our end which is now fixed. You can try again.idoru97214 wrote: Thu Jul 10, 2025 4:13 pm I got Infinity as upgrade, and it shows my Infinity license as NFR, which surprised me. My "total package" upgrade price is $131. Weird.
Edit: I paid $84 for infinity. Maybe they use that number to calc the total package price?

Im glad to see the Boyz are back on the scene, were decades ahead of other devs in some respects.
I guess the upgrade system isnt quite tight yet. Ive bought eveything but dont see a price to complete the bundle.
Hope they port the other effects to Eurorack with a morph system.
Love the look of the new stuff

Contact us with your user's detail. What happened apparently is that some license were occasional erroneously registered as NFR (press free versions). We can fix those though if you contact us.VariKusBrainZ wrote: Thu Jul 10, 2025 5:31 pm Im glad to see the Boyz are back on the scene, were decades ahead of other devs in some respects.

Personally I think my comments before were too cynical and maybe a bit entitled.
Grumbling about something I paid for 17 years ago seems a bit OTT. You've obviously put a lot of work into this new version and the price is reflective of that.
And there's always the whole matter of the fact that nobody is forcing anyone to buy it.
I've played around with the Demo and despite there being a multitude of distortion plugins available it's pretty awesome.
I actually much prefer the new UI to the old one. It's less abstract.
So....bought!

I hear you, Macros are certainly convenient, flexible and easier to setup than snapshots with Melohman. If setting up each snapshot within each preset is part of the sound design standards, it's a huge amount of work! Even if there is just the ability to switch between 12 different presets, using MIDI notes, that would be welcome to me. It was a critical feature, for the way I used Ohmicide.

Why is my old Ohmicide license marked as NFR? It wasn’t a license transfer, I bought it outright. Not letting me qualify for the upgrade

Thank you so much for the fix. It isn't showing yet, though. Still at $131. I can only speak from my experience. I paid 36 Pounds on PluginBoutique in April 2015 and I received ONE update. I had a showstopper issue, I don't remember which. Either it didn't initialise all parameters correctly upon loading a project, or automation didn't work 100% or I had random noise. One of the three.Red_Force wrote: Thu Jul 10, 2025 5:21 pmIt was 80 back then/ You may have had a discount, either a sale of through bundle cohmpletion (we offer those to Ohmboyz Infinity owner)medienhexer wrote: Wed Jul 09, 2025 5:41 pm I think I paid about 50 bucks for version 1. 18 years later this is a new plugin entirely - save for the distortion library. The upgrade pricing reflects that. Is that new value worth it to you? It's for you to tell. I would suggest trying the demo and decide on that basis.
But it wasn't fixed with the update and shortly after, you announced that you would stop developing plugins.
Needless to say that I didn't ever actually get to use it and I didn't try to solve the issue with you since you had left the building. The following 10 years I would not count as support in that upgrade price calculation.
Now in 2025, I'm cautious to buy into the brand again. I would consider 29 bucks as an upgrade pricing, seeing that you haven't been around in the past 9 years, but I like supporting developers who try to do the right thing.
I won't tell you how to calculate your business case, that's entirely up to you. I'm just saying that you could win back almost everybody with a 29 bucks upgrade. For 79/99 bucks, I absolutely HAVE to know I can rely on bugs being fixed, new systems being supported and sessions being able to recall in 10 years from now.
I don't know if the comparison with FabFilter is the best choice. I have NEVER had a single issue with any FabFilter plugin, including on new Mac OS versions.
You do have some delicious distortion algos. The rest matters just as much to me.
