Just a quick off-topic note. For those who might not have seen it, here’s what was on the product page today:

It’s not for me. But if anyone’s interested in the ASR, it might be worth checking out. I can’t say anything about the product itself.

OMG, does this take me back. I remember wrestling with floppy disks. What a PITA but nothing sounded like this. Nothing.

Problem I have with locking in the pre launch price is what if when it comes out it doesn't work? Then what? I'm screwed. And I'm certainly not paying $200 for an ASR 10 regardless of how cool it is. So it looks like a reluctant hard pass.

Wasn't the charm of the ASR how much more accurate it sounded compared to other samplers? If so, does that mean it sounds similar to software samplers (aside from the effects)?

Compared to today's other samplers? I don't know. At the time, it was state of the art. Now? You're getting it for that sound.

It was 16 Bit at 29.something kHz or 44.1 kHz nothing really special there. As a plugin it won't really have any special character

Could be expanded to 16mb of RAM

It's main selling point was that it had a good (for it's time) multi track sequencer, and good (for its time) effects that were put in a rack by themselves and called the Ensoniq DP/4

You could also easily record you own samples and then chop them up. That along with the sequencer made it extremely popular in its time with people making Hip-hop as you could sample old records and make beats

Maybe I'm wrong but I can't see very many people wanting to do this in a plugin. There are so many better tools to do these things in your DAW and so many sampler plugins that can do do 16bit 44.1k or 30ish sample playback

I just had an email exchange with this vendor that was drastically short of pleasant. It is unlikely I will ever buy this or anything from them, EVER.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking. The EPS is the one I always lusted after. Autechre said they could lock in loop ranges and use the mod wheel to cycle through different ones, but I don't know if a stock EPS could do that or if it required their custom software.
