If there's anyone out there consistently making pop music any better than Coldplay, they certainly aren't making it to the airwaves in America (not that that woul d be a surprise). If you don't like pop music at all (I like it "this" much -- holds thumb and index finger 1 mm apart), you won't like Coldpaly, will ya?

Someone mentioned Kent - they're awesome!
I love Coldplay. Whoever likes Coldplay should also check out the, uhm, "new" British group Keane - they have everything BUT the guitar. Stellar songwriting.
U2 has been my #1 band since I started listening to music around the time War came out. Whoever said the first two albums are enough can't have heard the rest...their greatest was Unforgettable Fire but Achting Baby and also their latest album (Atomic Bomb) is great.

Kovacs,
U2 has been my favorite since 'Boy'. If you don't have that one, go back and also pick up 'October'. You will not be disappointed.
People that hate Coldplay are just jealous.
If you like these, then there is a new band coming out on Chrysalis soon called 'The Great Fiction' which you will also like. I know their producer. They are local Michigan boys with excellent songwriting skills.

Of course it's possible. C'mon, it was just a bit of a joke.farlukar wrote:Yes, it is of course totally unthinkable that people just don't like the music hm?rockstar_not wrote:People that hate Coldplay are just jealous.
They are pretty good at creating memorable, yet simple pop songs. Same with John Mayer and guitar purists hate him, even though he plays way better than most of them in multiple styles and crafts some killer pop tunes as well.

Oasis
Keane
Coldplay
Stereophonics
All throwing round the same four chords, churning out safe 'dad' music for double glazing salesmen and Premier league footballers.
Utter. Shite.

Hey, I like Gregorian chant ala Hildegard von Bingen, bluegrass, jazz, authentic folk, 80's hair band heavy metal, and everything in between (including bands like Coldplay). Not much 'hip hop', but at least Coldplay is something that I like, my wife likes, and my 4 kids like as well.
Family trips listening to Coldplay, U2, Guster, The Great Fiction, et al. sure beats whatever Britney Spears / Kelly Clarkson crap is on the radio.

BTW, I listened to the Speed of Sound / Clocks Left/Right mashup.
You can even do this with Speed of Sound and I think it's 'Talk' from X&Y as well. Talk has a melody admittedly ripped off from Kraftwerk's 'Computer Love'
Not that anyone else could ever be accused of using the same 4 chords in more than one song.
Hmm, let's think - we might just have to throw out nearly the entire pop music repetoire of the 1950's and early 1960's with I IV V7 chord progressions or the I VImin IV V progression that countless pop tunes were based on.
While we're at it, might as well say that all Blues music sucks, since it's all the same chord progressions and tempos generally speaking.

I like their music, but their production is terrible. Parachutes was well produced, the next one I bought, I almost never play - the music is OK, but every single track has exactly the same sonic footprint and is massively over-produced IMO. Not sure if it's just over compressed/limited or over-Eq'd - or both. I find it tedious even after 2 songs. I haven't bothered to audition their last one, because every single I heard has got even worse with the production - it reminds me of beige for some reason...every single track is the same tint of beige. It's like there's a big brown blanket thrown over every song - that really has to be difficult to do - I can't even make my own music all sound that much the same. They must have used 100,000s worth of top end gear to make it that bland.
They really should get another producer/studio/engineer. Shame, because I like their Pink Floyd-ish influences. They're a top band, bottom production
