As an electronics tech I can tell you not to fret. hehe The trigger system is not all that complex to improve on..in the future. The neck sensor system is the real breakthrough for the midi-guitar. The user app will get us a much better trigger system. :& )It's just disappointing. I was hoping the results would have been more consistent, and it doesn't seem that way. While most seem to agree that it's not sensitive enough, the "some strings louder than others" thing is disappointing.

This would make sense, as the videos of Tim Kelly fingerpicking seem like they would be impossible with the present adjustments. I believe Tim had a pre-production model made before this modification
Steve L DID tell me that unlike our production YRG's, Tim Kelly's "proto" YRG DOES have the full string sensitivity range enabled (i.e full MIDI velocity range of 0-127) , with no restrictions on the string sensitivity threshold.
No doubt the Gamers probably complained that the YRG was "too sensitive", so they tweaked it.
To wrap your brain around what we are talking about here, its rather like Playing an Electric Guitar system that has a "too heavy handed" Noise Gate, that requires you to really dig into the strings before any sound is generated.
Its my opinion a simple firmware update will open the doors we seek, and allow subtle picking techniques to trigger the full MIDI velocity range of 0-127, to enable full musical expression on the YRG.

"I believe when the user app lets us increase the sensitivity, we can then increase the string tension. Hopefully we will find a comfortable mix between greater string rigidity, higher trigger sensitivity, and string mis-triggers do to noise produced from your hand, fingers and so on"
Have you talked to them, or are you guessing from the above post?
As someone has pointed out, this company's track record for delivery is not confidence inspiring.
We are all going to have to make a lot of noise if we want to be heard.

It's great that you hit on these topics. Now at least we have a sense of what we are dealing with and what we may need for a fix.
So the app we need. And we need it like yesterday

If I remember Elantric, they did give some time-line on this user app getting to us?Elantric wrote:I had a 45 minute phone call with Steve Leonard last weekend.Have you talked to them, or are you guessing from the above post?

It will be released on a Tuesday . . . .
Not sure what month or year "
HA! that was quick. (and the check is in the mail )
Good work Elantric. Thanks
BTW
Perhaps we have a legitimate gripe here.
After all, we endured those Tim Kelly videos for months. We got a clear picture of what we thought we were going to get.
Unfortunately, what we did get was not what Kelly was demonstrating. We got a modified version for gamers that appears to be rather unsuitable for the non-novice guitarist.
But they did warn us of this mod. So there.

And earlier;Steve at Inspired Instruments states:
Those values (49-120) indicate the preset is set to the HARD velocity table.
You'll be able to set each of the GUITAR, SYNTH and MIDI to any of the 8 velocity tables when the editor apps are released (no, I don't have a date - please contact support at www.yourockguitar.com)
Apps are currently under development for PC, Mac and iPhone/iPad that will provide for setting parameters in individual presets as well as global parameters.
Steve Leonard wrote>
"
The YRG has 8 internal velocity tables and the GUITAR, SYNTH and MIDI can each have there own table in EACH preset. There are several apps for PC, Mac and even the iPhone currently under development that will let each user fine tune the YRG to their individual expertise and style.
To adjust String Sensitivity:
Try the OPEN button: when ON the trigger sensitivity is lower and when OPEN is off the trigger sensitivity is higher. There will be many apps that will allow you to fine-tune your YRG to your own playing style.
KEVIN KENT WROTE>
"You might want to loosen the string tension a little bit on the bridge. Were doing a video on this after the E3 show, but its very simple. Everyone says its more sensitive with the strings a little loser. Factory testing equipment tweaks we need to do for a few more week. (Thanks)
Just look at the back of the bridge and you'll see 6 pretty good sized phillips heads, loosen is to the left, loosen to your preference. It will definitely change the sensitivity, when you start banging on it like Pete Townsend you just might want to tighten it a bit. It's a tweak, small steps..."

I am not experiencing some strings louder then others via midi. I set up curves on my proteus and it is handling them okey. My only beef is the 40~100 range. I'm used to using the volume knob on my ztar for swells.
I've also just begut to reassign cc values to the mod and whammy bar. The mod (joystick is overly sensitive ergo might not be suitable for volume/velocity and you will have to tap out everything on your left which is not that hard for comp chords and single note lines under some circumstances.

E3 show will be over in 45 minutes.
I think we just need to give them time, they do have a pathway and plans for updates
in case you missed it - read official YRG FAQ

I just noticed that there's quite a bit of noise about this issue on the Yahoo forums, which is good.
