how far is the developing?
Slowly, but surely. It's been one of those situations where it seems like every improvement leads to several other 'well, I may as well do this too' changes. For example, the UI really needed to be resizable - editing a modular graph on a fixed size window is pretty nasty - which led to me working on the related change of making every other Loomer plug-in UI re-scalable.

I'm currently re-doing the plug-in hosting: the general consensus has been that people want proper modular plug-in hosting a la Audiomulch; something which has always been on the roadmap, although not necessarily for v1. Whilst I'm trying not to get too carried away with feature creep, I believe this feature is important enough to warrant a little extra development time.

Thread started by me in winter 2012.....sorry but just wondering....

Post

Wow: I really did think it'd be out by now! All I can say is, the version I could have released six months, or a year ago, pales in what it is capable of now. And I think an earlier release would have boxed me in so - backwards compatibility can be tricky sometimes - that I feel the wait has been worth it.

Great news that all plug GUIs will be resizable. :)
Definitely looking forward to this as well as the new product.

Colin you really should release it. I'm kinda giving up on waiting. Sorry I know you know.......

Post

I really wish I could, but I won't until it's ready! The only thing I hope reassures you is that it's being worked on daily, and the changes that have caused the shifting timescales have been, in my mind, well worth the increased development effort. I appreciate everyone would rather have their hands on it now, but a late product is only late for a while; a great one is great forever!

So when do you think (obviously roughly) the beta-boys might get their hands on it Colin? :)

I say 'it' because I don't recall seeing what the post-Epoch decision was! :)

Soon; but not soon enough! :P The switch to resizeable interfaces, something that's been asked for more times than I can count, took a heck of a lot longer than I anticipated. And when bitmaps no longer cut it, large parts of the interface were transitioned to size-agnostic SVGs: a change well worth doing for the massively increased fidelity, but unfortunately again knocking schedules further off-track.

You'll be (one of) the first to hear of a beta though, I can assure you!

An approximate date as opposed to soon?

Colin I'm only pushing you because I can't help thinking you are missing your own zeitgeist as it were!

2013 is nearly over which will mean we are heading to two years since I started this thread and it was "soon" back then!

Of course it's up to you..... but I do want Loomer Inc to be super successful and it seems that this endless wait is not very good for customers.

Cool... looking forward to experiencing this beast once she's ready.

I'm of the opinion that if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right. :)

take your time, colin!
if its worth, its worth it.
'modern' modular is rare again (=bridging/scripting/midi processing/etc.).

Post

yup, no rush here, just make it gooood! :D

... but if in the long and lonesome times of coding resizeable interfaces you should happen to stumble over a screenshot of some of those GUI parts you think are already presentable and post them here, we wouldn't mind a bit ;-)
