if dune 3 has now the filters from dune1, is there a chance for a converter from dune1 to dune3 ?

Kevin's multilayered Dune sounds/sequences have been used successfully in many productions though. The latest example that comes to mind is JMJ's latest and very good album Equinoxe Infinity, with a sequence straight from World Of Cinematic (possibly other Dune 2 sounds in there too, not sure) :)

So it really depends. If all sounds had to be as simple as possible, quite a few genres wouldn't even exist today - like all supersaw-based EDM, for instance.

This. It´s not only that but i find the KS presets very inspiring and often a nice start to tweak from. There are also a lot examples where 5 or 6 layers are used but maybe just 1 or 2 have a dominant sound and the others are just to add subtle melodies, rhythmic stuff and so on. Bring life into presets for live playing is a great thing for me.
Most presets are also set quite perfect to velocity, breath, expression and wonderfully modwheel morphs almost kind only Alchemy can do.
I would call Dune 3 one of the most musical synths and it´s almost as versatile as a modular for modulation etc.
If a sounds get mushy depends on the designer of course as well. You can do simple sound muddy very fast or you also can use 10 reverbs cascaded and still have a clear sound if you do it right.

I'm pretty sure an approximation could be made: "fat" from D1 could become whatever_x + whatever_y in D2/3 (probably just detune and spread).

Although I would guess that Synapse Audio probably have an internal version of this kind of converter, for their own use, I don't think anyone else made anything like it.

SLiC wrote: Mon Dec 10, 2018 6:03 pm Not realy, there are so many operating systems and configurations that not everything can be tested. case in point, I had graphical issues in BYOME and couldn’t connect cables, turned out it was to do with the fact that i have Windows level scaling on at 125% as I have a 4K monitor....what beta tester would have caught that? stuff will always slip through on an initial release unless there is a long well participated open beta.
True. I had a weird UI bug with Falcon that drove me and their tech support crazy. Turns out, I had resized it’s window so it was slightly over into my second monitor. When I resized it to fit on one screen, the problem disappears.

Sad sad sad

And there are people who just don't want to waste their precious time installing demos...right?
Noppes , it's the spoonfed gen. that rather spend their (so called ) precious time watching a showcase video instead of actually playing itself .
Dude you must have a rather narrow intellectual horizon if you cannot understand why people prefer watching some videos to get a first impression of a synth.

But I give you a hint: at work, I cannot install a demo version. But I can watch a video.

Enough for you to understand?

Wow, so many views and I have never even heard of those guys, let alone that song 8)

There was a time when you went to the store (yes, you actually got out of your damn house) and bought a piece of software that was on a CD ROM or even (gasp) a floppy disk. And it was yours for as long as you had a computer that would run it.
The software I download today is also mine for as long as I have a computer that runs it.

Nothing has changed...
So you own absolutely no software that, if the company went out of business and shut its site down, would stop working.

So that means you own nothing by Waves for starters. Nothing by Arturia. Can't think of any others off the top of my head but there are at least a few.
I do not own any software that would stop working as soon as a company went out of business.
Well some of us do.

Trying to recreate perfect matches in another synth is actually good training for your ears and programming skills.

And that is your choice... and the possibility is there for you to choose to have it how you described it used to be...

Not sure if this is addressed to my earlier comment.
But if it is.

It works here, but feels like you should get some co-writer credits on it. Which is part of my point. A lot of your presets sound complete already, which will work for some producers/composers but not for others.

wagtunes wrote: Tue Dec 11, 2018 1:40 pm In all fairness, if I listen to whatever audio clips are out there of a synth and don't like what I hear, why would I waste my time downloading the demo?

Without mentioning any names (because I want to avoid all the inevitable "man you're crazy, that's a great synth" comment) I listened to the sound demos of this one synth that was up on the company site and couldn't believe they could release something that sounded so dull and lifeless. If the company itself can't put together a track that doesn't sound like pure crap, what possible reason could I have to waste my time thinking I can do better?

Conversely, if I hear a track on the company's site that absolutely blows me away, the only reason I'd even download the demo is to see if it works in my DAW. Otherwise, I'd probably buy it without having to try it myself.

The synth itself has to sound good for me to even bother with it. If it doesn't, I don't waste my time.

Point is, I can understand people wanting to at least hear what the synth sounds like first.
Your entitled to have your own opinion.
But relying your purchase purely on video/track example is utter bullocks
Assumming the synth sounds reasonably good from the start , any synth in the right hands will be able to attrackt the listener ..and convince him her of purchasing it .
You weren't aware that dune 2 had an @sample level updated modulation engine , how would you then base your buying decision based on a track if you hadn't explored the synth yourself .
That feature alone imho is a mayor selling point
If more people would actually know something about synthesis ( not saying you don't ) and explore the synth ,we wouldn't have these numerous ridiculous threads about which synth versus which synth , is sytnh X for dub .bro edm etc..

At the end of the day what matters is a sound that appeals to me, or not.
I doubt I hear sample-precision modulation, but I hear how the synth as such sounds, its character. And that one can easily hear on audio demos. As they say, a sound says more than 1000 words :hihi:
Also, when I don't like audio demos, I usually don't even bother to download the demo.
