I'm not too keen on using a beta. Is there any indication as to when the actual release is due?

Last beta 1.0.7 is pretty stable as plugin.
Some people have currently some issues with the standAlone though.

Give it a try !
Why would he want to be a beta tester for you after spending approximately $150 on sounds? He may actually make music and depend on his software, which would typically mean NO BETA no matter how stable - that's how a lot of people work - especially those that do it pro or even semi-pro. Your answer is all well and good but he bought a program and has every right to want to be able to use it with a non-beta release version. I don't remember if that's still a possibility but if not, that's pretty lame. This all looks great and all, but still beta (no matter that it is free) and if he paid for sounds and expects to use them in a stable release version, that's pretty obviously valid.
I've been away for a couple of days, but Buscemi has it right in his assumptions about my intentions. I don't particularly want to be a beta tester for software that I've purchased. But more to the point, I got a very hyped-up email from the company touting the 'new and exciting' player for my sounds that would revolutionize...etc., etc.

So when I go and try to find the new and exciting thingy, all I get is this thread, which I'd already been following on and off for awhile. The email seemed to indicate that the new software was already here, tested and ready to go...NOT Beta.

So I didn't really think it would be too much to ask to at least find out when the anticipated release date is as I really don't have the time right now to be installing and uninstalling beta versions of the software in anticipation of its EVENTUAL release. :hihi:

So many plugins, so little time...

I don't mind being a beta tester for software I have bought. This type of program works as a client with a multitude of different hosts and setups. There is no way the developers can foresee everything that can go wrong. So we have to help them, and I am glad that they finally do something about it.

That said, there is not much revolutionizing about this software. It largely does the same as the previous version, except that browsing sounds has become easier (thanks). But if they needed a complete rewrite to overcome problems, so be it.

I think they should consider making the program play back a few of the most widespread sampler formats too, like SF2 files. Having Kontakt 3 I don't need this myself, but for others it may be an advantage that could increase the likelihood of buying USB software.

It's more like, all of us who bought the USB stuff and could not use it because of how bad that player was can NOW actually use it

Hello,

I got problems with some patches, that I mentioned before, but have not been resolved...

So here we go :

Plugsound Pro Soundbank :

- Synths & co > Short-Rezo = lot of volumes spikes and high peaks

- The Musibox preset make my CPU usage saturated while playing this patch.

Computer :
UVI Workstation v1.0.7
Ableton Live 7
Windows XP Professional SP2
Intel Pentium 4 HT

Berfab,

See the difference in between Release and Beta software as you want, but from my point of view the only difference is that when it's beta you have a chance to get Your bugs fixed more quickly since the development team is all working on the same thing. Once it reach Release state, there is no garantee it will be more stable for you than when it's beta and the bug fixes will comes more slowly since you do not want to make it less stable than it was, so validation need to be more extensive. That being said UVI is far from being unusable and it is a LOT better than anything they release before PSP, MOTU player....
Bug free software don't exist...

Olivier, in 1.0.7 Soundbank recognition is a lot slower than before, in earlier build I never had to wait to see them appear and now when I open either the standalone version or the plugin, the only Soundcard preset is Mayhem... and then like 10 seconds later the others appears one after the others, but all seems usable once they are there.

I notice the same thing than K-Slash about bell/harp kind of sound like Music box, the release of the sound is long and polyphony is taking a lot of CPU usage when playing long run... I haven't compare it with similar sound in Kontakt, but CPU usage is really high then.

That's because MSI.dat, Ethno.dat and Ethno.ufs take a long time to be mounted.
Pace Auth checking for those one is done another way as those are older product and it takes time.
Can't do anything about it.

I'm well aware of the difference between beta and release. And there are many times I actually enjoy being part of the beta process. However, I received an email (which I assume other PSP owners received as well) with big splashy graphics, a long list of features and the heading: "Something new for you" with a giant UPDATE button.

Well, the link from the UPDATE button doesn't lead anywhere with an actual update. It was only from nosing around that I finally figured out that there was no actual software yet to actually update to. In fact, if I wasn't an active KVR member, I probably never would have even known about the public beta.

Now, I've got to ask, is this an appropriate way to launch your new platform? Yes, of course, beta the hell out of it. Get as many users as possible to find bugs and gremlins on as many OS and DAWs as you can. Then check it all twice just to make sure.

And then (and only then) send out your update launch to your paying customers.

Of course no software is perfect. But you don't jump the gun on offering your finished product when you're still knee deep in development.

'sall I'm sayin'. :hihi:

I'm not the one in charge of the commercial part, but I'm pretty sure this newsletter was more a look what's coming than a it's ready folks.
It might have been sent a little too earlier though.

I've fixed today the crash regarding the save button.
Regarding SA issue on mac, I think I fix it, I just need to check that it's really fixed for some folks that had the issue.

Still, I think we're seeing the end soon.
If you guys still have reproducible crash that are not one the two above, please notify us.

Seems to be working now! OSX 10.5.4... Stand-alone and plugin! :)

Hi Oliver,

Is the Pace bug (in my case, with autotune 5) resolved ?

Or, as I've read above, do we have to install UVI Workstation with a disconnected internet to make it work ?

Thanks.

I tried the plugin last night in Logic with a few instances running. Worked fine! So I'm assuming you fixed what was broken in 1.0.7! I need to check the drum kits again, as that was the only other problem I was having. When the track would loop I was getting a drop-out/glitch on playback... on some kits! :)
