It's a conceptual thing. Zebrify is something between an effect and a Doepfer-style modular synth. It's got no concept of "synth voice". Hence you first need to turn volumes to zero and then route an envelope (or gate) onto the any volume parameter in question.
I can't make this any easier (apart from adding presets), because then you would get unexpected results if you want to use it as "just a filter plugin" without the synth features.

As I can't make screenshots at the current stage, it doesn't really make sense to start writing a manual...
Fair enough.
I'd like it though if anyone else could chime in and give us a brief outline of how they are using Zebrify in their work. I get some 'interesting' results while playing with it....i would love to know, though wtf it is iam doing to GET there!
Input/midi/quantize? Volume turned down? Add an oscillator and this thing statrs singing!

Yo,
I finally implemented the oldest feature request ever: Collapsable folders in the preset browser:

There's now also multiple selection of presets. This can be used to drag them over into another folder. Or (if I manage to finish that) to mark them as favourites or junk (junked presets can be hidden).
Oh yes, this is also a little glimpse into the new colour scheme. Sort of. It isn't finished though
Later,
Urs

I'm afraid I'll need a copy of the "HS Movies" directory in order to properly test that new UI and make sure it's functioning properly.Urs wrote:Oh yes, this is also a little glimpse into the new colour scheme. Sort of. It isn't finished though

Yeah count me in too... Wouldn't want you to release this colour scheme without proper testing. HS Movies is the only way to give you accurate feedback.

Please, explain the first part a bit more, as I don't really get what's going onUrs wrote:It's a conceptual thing. Zebrify is something between an effect and a Doepfer-style modular synth. Presets would be really good, with simple and neat categories
And ay, I like what's going on with the new look

Sheesh... I will explain... soon...rectus_dominus wrote:Please, explain the first part a bit more, as I don't really get what's going onUrs wrote:It's a conceptual thing. can you please explain why you feel that way?Howard wrote:I couldn't disagree more about "simpler in terms of use, and more visually understandable"!Glich wrote:Compare zebra's mod system to that of Alchemy or the new Fabfilter stuff (timeless 2, twin2, volcano2) and you'll see how much room for improvement there is. These plugins did modulation right. MUCH more flexible, much simpler in terms of use, and more visually understandable.
In alchemy, one has far more modulation capabilities and its as simple as right clicking on any parameter and assigning it either a current or new modulation source. From there you can simply click on the parameter and it brings up an entire window with the mod matrix AND the mod sources for that parameter. You get EIGHT mod sources for EVERY PARAMETER!
In fabfilter its even better. Just add any type of mod source, and drag its target to any parameter. From there it shows all of that mod source's parameter targets and controls for the mod amount for each one. The number of sources is damn near endless and it all displays the targets and amounts in an easily understandable and instantly available manner.
Compare this to Zebra, which is only intuitive so long as you are only assigning one mod source to a parameter. Even then, one has to know what those "blank" nobs are actually supposed to be modulating in the first place. If one wants multiple mod sources to a parameter, one has to use the Mod mixer thing which adds a level of complexity completely unnecessary to the end goal and still limits it to only three mod sources. Furthermore, one is limited to how many mod mixers one can use, thus limiting one's ability to use multiple modulation sources on multiple parameter targets. I'm not trying to trash zebra here, I'm trying to make it better by pointing out that the way it does certain things is, in my experience, inferior to the methods being employed by others in recent developments. I'm not saying to copy what Alchemy or Fabfilter did, but to learn from them and come up with an even better way to deal with modulation

I can look at a Zebra patch and understand a lot quicker what is going on than I can with Alchemy. Alchemy just doesn't flow for me. It is very powerful but it just doesn't invite me in to tinker with patches the way that Zebra does. I think that Zebra gives you a lot more information upfront without having to dig through a lot of panels.
Of course, this just means that Zebra modulation scheme works better for me. It doesn't mean that Zebra is better. We all have our preference and I for one am glad that there is a lot of variety in what we all like.

I do love some of the other things Alchemy has -- like the Kore-like morphing pads. I am still waiting for an affordable multitouch screen solution so that I can control Zebras 4 pads with four fingers. The ipod Multi-Touch might do the trick someday.
