Favourite eq plugin?

Different ones at different times. Currently use Hydratone, Valvetone, PLParEQ3, Pultec and Ozone3. I also use the Sonitus EQ and Firium from time to time. This covers most needs. The funny thing is that I use the $20 donationware PLParEQ3 the most, especially for boosting. For coloration theres nothing like the Tritone plugs.

I'd use PLParEQ3 more but it needs PDC ... while FL Studio supports this, I can't record with it on. So basically its a no-go for me, because I almost always record with my MIDI controller these days.

i agree. i cant see how its of much practicle use? unless you have specific settings you wish to capture from you're own hardware. but then there's colourtone pro for a fraction of the cost.omo wrote:sidrat, hehe, you can't bite me![]()
but I know that using Q-Clone is pain in the ass. You can't just sweep and find that very spot but instead you have to sit there with a mouse and klick cklick cklick browsing through presets. Redicilous design
but if you're mad about eq sound quality then you should be even more mad about you're own ability, as that will have a far larger effect on the mix. but it seems q-clone resricts that, so for me until it has 0.1db increments across the freq range of each sampled device, i dont really see the point.

ok, genius - that's because it's not -designed- to be a traditional parametric eq.omo wrote:but I know that using Q-Clone is pain in the ass. seriously, what part of "q-clone" don't you understand? it's purpose is to allow you to "clone" your -outboard- eq settings within a plugin (using convolution).
ding ding ding!!! finally, someone who understands what q-clone is about.martian wrote:i agree. i cant see how its of much practicle use? unless you have specific settings you wish to capture from you're own hardware.
colortone and q-clone are apples and oranges. for instance, q-clone allows you to make changes to your eq and hear it in real time (while you're adjusting the knobs) - colortone does not.martian wrote:but then there's colourtone pro for a fraction of the cost.
also, it allows you to stack eq curves on top of other eq curves (using the "add" button).
plus, one of the coolest features is it lets you use your single-channel outboard eqs on stereo sources. this is worth the price alone if you have expensive mono outboard eqs.
exactly. it's the wizard - not the wand.martian wrote:but if you're mad about eq sound quality then you should be even more mad about you're own ability, as that will have a far larger effect on the mix.
actually, i wish waves didn't include presets with q-clone. it causes confusion because people think it's supposed to be used as a "preset" type plugin, then they get upset when they can't tweak the presets.martian wrote:but it seems q-clone resricts that, so for me until it has 0.1db increments across the freq range of each sampled device, i dont really see the point.
in reality, you should think about q-clone as an accessory to your outboard eqs - not as a standalone plugin eq. however, if you want to sample your outboard eqs at 0.1dB increments at every frequency and use it as a preset plugin, there's nothing stopping you.

While people are saying qclone costs so much, what's wrong with curveEQ?

I own Hydratone, GlissEQ, UAD Pultec Pro, Cambridge, HarmoniEQ and PLParEQ3. By far my favorites are the HarmoniEQ for vocals and either GlissEQ or PLParEQ for acoustic guitars.

you're right, i guess not owning any hardware eqs i saw it as a preset eq machine. but for the reasons you've presented it seems oksidrat wrote: actually, i wish waves didn't include presets with q-clone. it causes confusion because people think it's supposed to be used as a "preset" type plugin, then they get upset when they can't tweak the presets.

anyway, im supprised they didnt also sample loads of eqs and make a massive library with an instant transparent workflow like any parametric eq. maybe there will be a cut down version that just gives you the library in the future?

my quick vote
Voxengo curve eq
pros
easy to use
batter anything with it and it sounds great
cons
has a bit of a delay, but cubase has plugin delay compensation. not really an issue.

My vote:
Eqium
Sonalksis SV-517
I usually start with Eqium unless I need more color. It's one of the few digital EQs that does what I expect it to, soI can work quicker.
