What you mean by per clip FX?
Man, rigth click\process\done, you want do it more practical use Xlutop, eXT or else.

Do your toys do it like that? uh? :P
Pouckypluysch:
online FX applied to clips instead of tracks.
for example:
if you want a specific effect on one word of a vocal take, it would save CPU if you could put the effect on the clip, not the whole track, preventing the effect from running throughout the song duration.

stag:
does eXT do that? anyway, i know there's offline processing in Cubase, but i want it to be online, just like having a VST on a track channel.[/i]

Once with the 3.xx release previous to the last one, i went thru real heartbreak, from relying and snappy went to crash-o-rama. Well, definitly roll back. Within 3 weeks there was the final release.
I'm not happy with SX3, it didn't improve my workflow, it changed it. SX2, albeit bad freeze, which i didn't care much, i found it inpratical since freeze and editing are incompatible, was a more mature release than SX3.
C4 looks very appealing, as much as like innovation, is there in my opinion, sometimes are the little refinamments that make me happy.

To me it's crystal clear, because of releases such as C4, Steinberg pays attention to the user base, industry trends and still do a huge amount of input of their own.

It's cool to know other think diferent than me, i know very well sometimes things can go sour, it made me a lot more understanding about other people probs, instead of going: "hey, what's up, moron? all's fine here", i try to listen closely, probably i end up knowing more about what i'm using too.

I know what he was referring to actually and it's not what you mentioned. Per clip audio effects are realtime effects placed on only 1 clip. Tracktion and Sonar support this and it could come in very useful. I'm also surprised they missed this ... however, come to think of it, I don't think Logic has this feature either.

Fots
Indeed.

IIRC, Digital Performer has it too. I've begged for it at the Cubase forum - not that Steinberg seems to care about user interaction though.

AUTOMATION! enable writing, enable the fx, disable fx, ena... etc.

not the same.. you'd have to automate all effects on the channel
that's just plain silly

that's a workaround i do use... but it comes at a price:
there's no overview of what you're doing. if you go back to an old project, the only way to know if a disabled effect is set up to enable itself in some parts of the project is to hit Play and watch the effect's Power knob for the entire song duration... now that's just silly.

With per clip FX, you'd only need to select the clip to see what (if any) effect is active.

the instrument tracks sound like a silly idea to me:
they don't improve workflow enough (so what if i don't have to open the Devices window to activate a VSTi?) to justify the risk of confusion they bring.

@spaceman, no just the individual fx(s) i'm enabling\disabling.
Sorry guys it sounds like you scratch with your left hand, i scratch with the rigth hand. :hihi:

Probably you guessed well, an instrument track is created and the instrument is called from the track\mixer itself.mmmm yummi! i hope.

guess i'll be having a good look at the competition instead.

negative as you are about Cubase I wonder why you haven't done the switch already.

i wanted to stay with the app i've used since 1995, that's all... i have no beef with Steinberg/Yamaha, not at all, but i've been disappointed by Cubase eversince SX2, with the ridiculously bad Freeze.

Cubase used to be way ahead of the pack, but nowadays they're famous for badly implemented bells and whistles, instead of innovation.
I just don't get it. It's almost like Apple, once innovative, nowadays strong in marketing gadgety stuff like iMacs and iPods with restricted functionality.

Also, Steinberg has a tradition of censorship and ignoring users' problems and requests. It's like they lost touch, or just don't care IMHO.

A good host should be stable, abundant in functionality, intuitive, and offer a good workflow... not stuff like a Freeze function one should avoid anyway.
Ok, i see. Well freezing never really suited my workflow, the one time I used freeze with SL3, though, it worked just fine.
I do think that this time they at least implemented a part of the features that have been requested so it seems to be a step in the right direction.
About instrument tracks - looks like this is a can-use feature, so everyone who thinks it is confusing can stick to how thinks worked up to now...

Come on folks, get real.
No software can be perfect for everybody, that's just not possible.
If I find something better, I'll switch (after extensive real-world testing, preferably).
There are many hosts around, try to find a better one.
cptgone, sounds like you should try Samplitude.
It's got clip FX and freeze (possibly better than SX, don't know), try it. I don't like the workflow at all, ymmv. It's a good host nevertheless.
The only good thing I have to say about Apple is that they forced me to give up Logic and change to SX, after four weeks I was working faster than before in Logic and haven't looked back.
SX has come a long way since. Found the old SX 1 demo again lately, it was almost laughable compared to 3.1.1.
Steinberg are basically doing a great job, though they messed up with attitude and quality control in the Pinnacle days.
I hope that's out of the window now, we'll see how bug-free 4 is.
And I'll be the first to complain if 4 means Bugs 4 U again.

Since it is a workaround you're actually using, it might be good to know that you ca have instant overview by using 'right click'+'show used automation'. The you'll see lanes with automation, applied on everything that is automated for that track, and (to keep it tidy) only for the paramaters that are actually automated.

Well with C4 you could nick yourself susiquattro as well. Until C5 comes out...

I've owned 4 mp3 players, nothing has ever come close to an iPod what functionality is concerned. The only restriction is 'downloading' songs to your computer but there's a great little app that does just that

and what on earth is so restricted on an iMac?

I'm dying to hear
