Tracktion is VST alone, as is Ableton and eXT. They all support drag'n'drop... makes one think, innit?

I don't appreciate much Rioja, that's wine for girls. Castillian and Ribera del Duero wines that's the shit.
Agreed on the Ribera, but too often over priced. I usually prefer the wines of Martinez Bujanda, pure Garnacha is particularly fine by them.

Stag, who gives a damn about Samplitude? Not me. I decided some time ago to lock a platform down that would give me everything I need for the forseable future. That platform includes Sam 7 on Win 2K. I have spare parts to keep that platform rolling for at least ten years. Whatever gets released from this point on, it won't really affect me much as I use hardware synths almost exclusively. I don't believe in progress by perpetual change.

This is probably my last outing against Steinborg. The technology may well survive this launch, but I think as a brand, they're doomed. The problem that faces the borg with C4 is the race against the pirates. Crapping on the customer base like this just at the point of launch will cause too many adopters to delay their purchase at least until the platform is proven. If the bad guys crack the dongle before that psychological point in the market is reached, they'll have ugly problems.

You won't, I don't suppose, remember a British jeweller called Gerald Ratner. For nearly fifteen years Ratner dominated the UK high street in inexpensive jewellery. He made one stupid speech in which he ridiculed the people buying his jewellery, and he was busted and broke within a year. There's an effect called the tipping point that all disreputable traders like Steinberg MT balance on. I think this time, in the absence of Charlie, they've gone too far.

Arguing about it won't change the outcome. Although, if by chance, Steinberg soften their line on DX around the new year, say, providing a free supported wrapper, you'll know the levee's broken.

Not sure what you mean there? By drag and drop do you mean reordering insert plugs?

If so, Sonar and Audition both do this (with DX as well as VST  )

Logic PC did it 5 years ago with VST and DX also- but you couldn't do it in the mixer, you had to open an audio config window to do it.

Personally I almost never use DX and I can appreciate that the VST plugins I use will not make the shift to 64 bit Cubase without an update. Still, I think Steiny should have been more upfront about this decision which will obviously screw with loading old projects and affect Autotune users particularly. Thiswas one important area where they were really in front of the competition - backward compatibility with old projects and cross platform support have been Steinberg's alone for the last 4 years.

I appreciate that they have made a frank statement - better late than never.

And strangely they have handed that lead over to Sonar on a plate. Odd.

Better than nothing, at least.

Regarding Autotune and compatibility with older cubase projects. If I understood it right, most people use(d) autotune to apply an offline pitch correction. I don't see why it would be o problem to open a project in C4, just because an effect is applied offline to an audiofile in an older project.

I think we'll all look back and laugh at this little hiccup in history. Unless you want to stick with ACID 1 on Win98, then all the luck to ya. :P

I wont laugh.
Steinberg pulled a bad move here.
removing DX support - fair enough, but it's the fact that during all that time when they were planning & implementing they never gave any notice of the fact to their users - that's what sticks in my craw.
They can't be allowed to get away with it & need as much negative publicity as possible so that they & other developers realise that there is a cost (even if it's just negative p.r.) for making decisions like this.
Just my opinion, as a concerned 'consumer' I guess.

Yay. :hyper:

Good news at last. :D

So if it affects you not one little bit, why the hatred and trolling?

Just like cracking of SX3 did? Like the cracking of SX 1 and 2 did? Like the cracking of VST did?

That's a completely different thing. Steinberg have simply dropped an old format, not abused customers. :nutter:

TBH, I don't care who's in charge of Steinberg, as long as it's not Sony. If they took over, Id buy a different platform...but I wouldn't waste emotion and effort trolling all the time Cubase is ever mentioned. Charlie Steinberg/ Yamaha? I care not one bit, as long as the host continues to provide what I want from it...which from the look of C4...it does. In fact C4 to me looks very attractive. It's actually made me want to upgrade, which I wasn't at all interested in with SX3. So you don't like Cubase, but prefer another host. I'm fine with that. Why can't you just STFU and accept that some of us prefer Cubase.
I think this time
Either too much or (more likely) too little, I fear. :P

Get rid of DX...at least Steinberg are getting rid of some of the bloat, even if it's only a tiny little bit. Actually I'd prefer if they got rid of some more bloat, but it probably won't happen much. My host of choice is not perfect. Neither is any other host...and guess what...it won't harm me at all. I'll continue making the music I want to make, in the way I prefer to make it.

Why don't you go troll a Microsoft forum or something. God knows your OS of choice W2K leaves alot to be desired. At least you might find a few more people willing to listen to your hatred and trolling.

My thoughts exactly!

This Steinberg bashing thing has gotten really old, real quick!

So they screwed up, get over it already - you don't even use it for f**ks sake.

The DX dropping issue has been well & truly covered here & on every other audio forum out there.

Get a new crusade H, your 2cents on this is just plain boring now.

Think about it HQ - Ableton had (in some version 5 releases) changed functionality without a by your leave - pissed users off (something to do with the way the stop button worked & then when you restarted loops were'nt always in sync - the ableton devs thought it was a 'feature', most users regarded it as a bug or function omission).
It was explained to them & they refigured the functions in question & apologised for the impact it had caused & basically said they'd never change something on such a fundamental level again without prior notice etc.
It's basic gopd customer relations.
Anyways i've had enough with this now - if Steinberg users themselves mostly aren't worried about the possible implications of the manner in which this was implemented & what a bad precedent (although certainly not the first such given steinbergs history of removing functions in upgrades) it sets - then why should I be?

If Steinborg p*ss off their users enough, some inevitably crossgrade or simply defect to alternative hosts. Then as ex-users, for a time at least, they "bash" the Borg.

When Steinberg stop doing this sort of stuff, the cycle will surely be broken.

its a contagion too, because i just have some copy of cubase SL that was given me with a soundcard, so i hardly used it, hated it immediately, and i just join in with the ex-users ;) nothings more fun than bashing ole' charlie
