Wow, that's very harsh words there.

I could understand that response if say for example, he promised everyone in blood on his website that there would be a gauranteed specific version on sale as part of the purchase. Actually scratch that, I can't understand a response as harsh as this at all.

Nowhere on the website is there any mention or promise of a mac version. He may well be working on one but he's hardly misleading.

And as far as compatibility goes, there is a demo version!. If someone doesn't properly try the demo, then purchases it, then kicks up a massive fuss because of compatibility issues and where's the updates, I'm sorry but more fool them. I would never buy a product unless I knew it was going to work well with my system (the only exception being Cubase SX3 as there's no demo version, but I'm a long time Cubase user...)

It's not like he had some big announcement on the official website, saying 'JUNE 2008. MAC VERSION + PC UPDATE' and then didn't deliver. If you go by his posts on this KVR forum, once again no specific promises, just words like 'beginning 2008 probably' 'sometime around...' and he did say in his April post he was dealing with a few personal issues too (which he's under no obligation to divulge to us).

His only crime here is that he's stayed quiet, either due to difficulties coding the new Sylenth1 version or other reasons we don't know about.

Yes it sucks not being told anything, this is his forum and he could respond more, but really whats the big crime here?!?!. There is a demo version, if you like you buy if not don't.

Really his actions here don't make him a bad or evil person and certainly NOT an 'asshole' as you put it.

^ I gotto agree wholeheartedly with Arksun. The only real "crime" (if you can even call it that) is that he should probably log on and just say "working on it" every few weeks. I can understand the user frustration, but this constant cycle of

- well that would be disheartening for any developer. If you bought Sylenth and have issues in your host, then you have a gripe for sure, and a personal email to support@lennard is the appropriate place to air the gripe. But if you haven't bought it, or if you're on Mac, then please give the guy some space. It'll come when it's done...don't add to the drama.

There is aboslutely no evidence or reason to suppose this is abandonware as you put it.

Even though it is later than expected, thats nothing new. Look at Access; announced the TI in Jan and said 45 days, but it was released in Oct.
Spectasonics announced in Jan what seems like a finished product is to be release in Sep.

Things always take longer than expected and unexpected problems come up.

Spectrasonics realised this and planned well and managed customer expectations well.

I'm sure Sylenth1 will be ready in due course.

No dramas from me . But I will continue offering encouragement because I reckon it is important for Lennar to know that there is still alot of interest in the product (mac or otherwise ) and that what he is doing will be worth it . Forums generally have a high percentage of those people that when they get behind a computer they start picking fights with anyone and spouting off about people they have never met . Chances are those people would be quiet as mice when faced with all these people in a real room actually talking . I'm eager as well because I believe that the oscillators in Sylenth could be some of the best I've heard on a Computer .

Stil...Many of us have been through this before - Great new product comes out, dev is very responsive then gradually (before all the potential and/or bugs are sorted out) fades away until one day we hear he went to work for Mega-Instrument Company with no word to us, the customers of his product. That is the point here - Sylenth sounds great but needs more work to reach it's full potential and we all see and want that.

No frustration should be tempered here at all, in fact this is absolutely the correct place to voice that frustration!

I couldn't agree more...... The product has major issues, which were not apparent in the demo and the web site did not declare these problems which were already known about. Disgusting.

I can see why some people are anxious. I get anxious too, having spent my hard earned money on items that later became abandonware. If the items still work, that's great. That's all that matters, but in a couple cases, the items no longer work on the newer machines and I'm not interested in running dual boots or a legacy system just for one vst. Oh well. Those are the chances we take, especially with a small developer with no track record. The benefit is that some of these things that are coming out from the smaller developers are really cool and different and exciting.

On the flipside, I think we have to remember that a lot of these developers are not living the high life just from having sold a few vst's here and there. I suspect that some of these guys are to software development what some of us are to music - doing it as something we love and perhaps hope to make a living from someday (or perhaps not). But more likely than not, maybe just some extra income.

So, I'm willing to cut some of these guys a lot more slack than I would when dealing with someone like NI, Steinberg, etc., etc. Willing to be more patient with them when communicating, and also in terms of expectations. Realizing that some of this is probably a lot of hard work for a small one-person company.

That said, I think that when you set yourself up as a business you do need to make an effort to check in at least on a semi regular basis. To communicate with your customers. So I can certainly see why some people are very frustrated.

Let's hope that all works out for everyone involved. In my case, I've been able to run Sylenth without any issues, so I'm very glad for that.

My take is that he's keeping a healthy distance from threads such as these, posting on a monthly basis only, so as not to get drawn in to endless discussions and debate, and actually spend his free time working on the synth.
