Zebra misleadingly priced.

Five pages seems about right. Enough for three rounds of the same posts, but not so many that it's unseemly.

No worries man... It's easier for me to judge, maybe unfairly, since I don't have to deal with it.LeVzi wrote:I don't deny that I am keen to get Zebra, I use ZebraCM a fair bit, obviously my signature is my main synth for most things, but I decided to treat myself to something a bit different for maybe a new take on what I do. I was disappointed I couldnt get it and made the point, all be it, I probably didn't come across properly, and it got into a big discussion about VAT.elxicano wrote:+10000... But again, you don't need to actually own any "old gear"
Really the best approach is dropping a line to Urs and asking what you can do to qualify for the crossgrade price. I'm sure the two of you can work something out.
You'll be very happy once you have.
Anyway, Urs really is the best one to ask about this. He responds pretty quick, even for someone on a vacation. Just ask him what you can do to qualify, and maybe he'll let someone else provide the photo for you???? There's quite a few good KVR people here that'd be more than happy to help.

I didn't mean to turn this into a witch hunt against Urs or Zebra, as that was never the intention, I was disappointed, and wanted to maybe suggest that it was something on the site to show it. Maybe petty to some, but was an issue here today.
Anyway, maybe best forgotten as I can see some looking for a reaction.

I'm not made out of money. I don't even own Zebra. I do own the Uhbiks and ACE however. There's a very great chance I will buy Zebra in the future, and I will save my pesos until then.yellowfever wrote:what's ridiculous about it? about knowing the total price before you commit to buy? yeah, too ridiculous for words that is. Look, if I advertise something for sale, I have to show the TOTAL cost, so why shouldn't other people? I don't see how that is ridiculous? Not all of us are made of money.zvenx wrote:I have seen ridiculous threads on kvr before but this one must rank up there with them....jeez.
Had OP mentioned in a thread "hey Urs you should put the EUR and GBP prices on your site too, cause I didn't realize VAT was included on the USD amount" at least we could have gently reminded him that it he is silly for assuming that the USD amount would include VAT, and that he could find out the +VAT price with a single click. But this way, he's well.. inciting a riot, basically.
Constructive criticism!

I don't charge any VAT. The Buy Now button redirects anyone to my reseller (Digital River) who adds VAT accordingly (ShareIt is based in Cologne, Germany). In the monthly statements, ShareIt actually adds VAT on all sales, sends it to me. I then send it to local authorities while ShareIt claims the same amount back from theirs.
Sorry for the confusion, afaik it's quite common to exclude VAT from labels on Buy-Now buttons all over the internet, as it's also common to exclude shipping costs, credit card fees and what not. I do include VAT on the EUR-labels though, e.g. ACE is 69€ including VAT and 85$ excluding it, as labelled. For the very important US market it seems mandatory to exclude VAT from price tags, while Europeans commonly seem happy either way. I might consider the idea of an asterisk with a hint about the possibility of VAT for the next overhaul of the website.
Some general tips about pricing:
- buy when the USD is low (has actually been for 5 years now)
- buy in USD, not in EUR or quid (let your credit card institute convert the currency, it's often cheaper than ShareIt)
- crossgrade a home made cake that looks like a minimoog (use M&Ms or macaroones for knobs etc.), you can later on use it to celebrate, or to compensate girl friend for the time you're going to spend with Zebra
Cheers,
Urs

Urs I want to apologise for the thread, it wasn't meant as a dig at you or Zebra's pricing, I was just disappointed with losing out on it, as I was really set to spend my weekend creating with it. I really do appreciate what you have put here, and I will take your advice.Urs wrote:I don't charge any VAT. This is why I have decided (as many others) no to buy any product that charges VAT as we don't have to pay it not being part of the EU.
At the end there are alternatives... and sometimes... better alternatives...!

Yes, Zebra is such a better alternative. And you don't even have to pay VAT if you're outside the EU.apolo wrote:I have decided (as many others) no to buy any product that charges VAT as we don't have to pay it not being part of the EU.
