artificial feedback was a poor choice of words due to a lack of a better term at the time. None of this really has much to do with an amp or amp simulation. Put an amp in one of those amp isolation boxes and monitor it in another room wearing headphones and your amazing feedback machine has it's testicles removed. You mention "artificial feedback" but I'm not sure what you mean Hink. Acoustic (kenitic) feedback is just that. If you're talking about Sustainiac systems (I have one) I highly recommend them. Really good and very controllable. You can dial them so that you're just getting a tiny bit of life, or crank it so you feel like you're standing next to a full stack cranked up.
You're right about how to get feedback, my point is that's against my abilities with my current living conditions. I'm very anal about disturbing my neighbors, I can do well as I said just using my boogie in this room and using my Ted Weber box to lower the volume and as long as I separate the cab from the head I can get it low enough and get close enough...but still I worry.
I separate the head and cab of course because if I get too close to the head I'll pick up the transformer and that would defeat everything.
I like that feedback that seems to be right on the edge of getting lost, like when you bend or use a whammy and it seems like the bending is going to break up the feedback and then the feedback comes rushing back in. Feedback with for sustain is one thing, what you do with that sustain is another. In my performing days I found such things got a rise from the audience which has a ripple effect boosting everyone's experience during the performance.
But recording isn't performing, hence my feeling of something lacking.
