More importantly, imagine what you could do to your plug-ins if you had a few hundred thousand dollars to play with, such as getting custom algorithms coded for you and hiring additional sound designers. What if you took that money and manufactured a custom midi controller for use specifically for your synths, I bet you'd come up with something pretty wild.

Really? Why not? You're building a significant following and most everyone here knows you, why wouldn't you want to continue on that?

Maybe a cool way to find a balance between releasing freeware vs. payware would be to release the plug-ins free and then sell a custom iPad app to control them. That way you can release free software for the people who can't afford to pay but make a little money from the people who obviously can (since they can afford to have iPads).

Wow! I'm glad I stumbled into this thread. I had read about ZynAddSubFX years ago before the VST version was out. I didn't realize there's a vst version out now. This thing sounds absolutely stunning!

I had a 30 minutes play with Crystal this morning, and I have to agree that it is pretty nice.
