Hehe, regarding Supersawism, at the moment Diva has the same voice stacking feature as ACE and Tyrell. We've planned to replace it by a more appropriate Unison mode that works like in the Jupiters: With 6 voices and one note played, all six play that note - as you would expect. When two notes are pressed, each note gets three voices and so on. This will also work for any other setting between 2 and 8 voices. If I ever get to write that code...

Thing is, my machine chokes with a voice stack of only 4. Which may improve a bit but still...

Also, we will not do "cheap" versions of the filters. They sound too different, especially in cutoff frequency and resonance tone. Instead we'll offer a draft mode with less oversampling (none for OscFM, 2x for Filters). This will get you twice the number of voices with only a little more aliasing, but hopefully without tuning issues. We'll check it out with the tuned versions of all parts.

Later,

U

I really hope I'll be able to play at least 1 voice

Will DIVA sound qualitatively better than ACE or "just" different? I mean the things that you wrote about Zimmer's Mini made me more than interested. That alone makes me to WANT one... :hihi:

Not necessarily better, mostly different.

We can do some things in Diva that we can't do in modular synths. Diva has a fixed routing:

oscillators (w noise source) -> highpass filter (optional) -> lowpass filter -> amplifier

Because it's a fixed routing we *know* at any point what's coming in, and what signal levels we're looking at. So we can tweak that to sound really good, within the limitations of that architecture.

In other words: There's no "filter drive" setting or anything that has to be tweaked for hours just to get "that" sound. Diva has "that" sound out of the box, always. But she won't have "those" sounds. No modular madness. (well, almost...)

I'm for public beta! Firstly becouse she looks (and I bet sounds) awesome and secondly becouse sentense "I've played with Diva." is really (and awkwardly) funny. :D No, seriously, I'd love to test it!

well, probably most of the people who wrote in the thread would absolutely love to beta test this Diva !

... well, I sure do anyway

Me too...

Still a lot of work though... we developed some new ideas and found a bunch of little issues that have to be solved first

Darn! I had a dream last night that Urs released the screenshot of the gui. It was pretty darn amazing too.

Are there any specs available? I really don't know what this Diva is all about. Did I miss something?

Not much is available yet. I didn't want to post preliminary screenshots nor did I want to post audio material before things are tweaked to perfection.

At first sight Diva is just another simple synthesizer. She provides more or less complete models of four classic analogue synths, but the parts (oscillators, filters, envelopes) can be freely combined among those models. It'll always be 1, 2 or 3 oscillators, a highpass filter, a lowpass filter and 2 envelopes.

There's one major difference or two to other synths though. We have the original analogue hardware synths in an unusually great condition, and we're using a cpu munching modeling technique hat hasn't been used in a native synth plugin before. We have been able to create sounds that are simply not possible in other synths, including ACE and Zebra. The only drawback is that you can't play much more than a chord in best quality setting.

;)

This all sounds really cool Urs, and I don't know if it has already been addressed, but will Diva have 'audio-in'?

If so, how can/will it be used/abused by Diva.

Thanks
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

What about lfo's?

And will there be effects onboard?

You know - i am a little more enthused about ACE XL - is there any word of when that may appear?? I will buy DIVA when it comes out, but I am slow to learn modular patching having never owned a hardware modular. ACE is more my speed..

When?

Two LFOs, two FX boards in series with a selection of nice effects.

ASAP
