Not much. The resonator is massively colouring though and because it's lowpass, bandpass or highpass filters you'll completely filter the upper and/or lower end.hakey wrote:Probably a daft question, but what are the differences between the resonator and a three band EQ?
If you could hire team u-he to do any project...

Thought that too. But it wouldn't be possible to completely filter out the low/high end than.hakey wrote:Okay. So it's three filters in parallel?

Yes you could or at least as much as with just 1 lp filter or at least close (can't really wrap my head around the maths for the moment).Bronto Scorpio wrote:Thought that too. Say you have the filters and octave apart the top end would be filtered out mostly by the filter tuned the highest. An octave above it would obviously be down 24 db (assuming a 24db/oct filter) and there would be -48 from the second filter and -72 db from the third. The overall volume would be higher from 3 filters than from one and there's where i can't really figure out if the total is slightly brigther with 3 filters than one.
Either way the point isn't so much running the filters without any resonance. It's whole purpose is to impart resonances so in most cases you would have some resonance on.
EDIT:I checked the schematics and it is indeed 3 filters in parallell with no frequency splitting as was proposed earlier.

Aaahhh! Of course! That makes sense. I just thought of 1 filter. But it is of course possible when you use all 3. Thanks!jupiter8 wrote:Yes you could or at least as much as with just 1 lp filter or at least close (can't really wrap my head around the maths for the moment).Bronto Scorpio wrote:Thought that too. Funnily enough i thought so too at first but then i realized: Hey wait just a minute, that's not right.Bronto Scorpio wrote:Aaahhh! Of course! That makes sense. I just thought of 1 filter. But it is of course possible when you use all 3. Thanks!

Juergen Haible ahs a nice page with frequency graphs and whatnots.

Funny how a fourth mode is implemented but can't be selected from the front panel.

4 way switches aren't as expensive in software as they are in hardware ?Urs wrote:But from our'sjupiter8 wrote:Funny how a fourth mode is implemented but can't be selected from the front panel.

I've been thinking of some sort of 3d depth control thingy where on a final mix you can adjust the space of the production, not surround so much as instead like in photography -those vintage stereoscope image viewers where different elements appear on different planes.. this would work in stereo
It would invite your ears in to explore the depth/layers rather than bombarding and confusing you as does surround sound (which is probably great for movies ,bad for songs , maybe unless you're really out of it:)
I know certain good mixes are like this to an extent anyway , but having a full element of control in a vst on the master bus..... i can see it now, of course there'd be a 'pink floyd' setting!
can U-he do it??

A u-he sampler would be amazing and a big hit, I think... Especially if it had a good time/pitch stretch mode and lots of ways to royally FSU
Looking forwards to Zebra 2.6
