hey i got it to record! and to a wav track. but it does not record to the opened wav track where the vst is, but to a following, master .wav track.
you have to "play" slifty in the opened track and record output to the master track.
this sound right?

That is exactly right.paulmo wrote:hey i got it to record! and to a wav track. but it does not record to the opened wav track where the vst is, but to a following, master .wav track.

Sounds to me like your confusion, Paul, is that you're thinking of Slifty as a standalone app that produces sound, just like the app Hammerhead you mentioned.
Slifty is not a program unto itself. Think of it first and foremost as a VST instrument, like a synthesizer plugin.
To record a synth plugin in a host, you have to play the thing, and have the host record the audio as a WAV file within the host.
Now, unlike a synth, Slifty uses WAV files you load into it to produce its sound. Or the snippets of audio you record into its buffers.
Now, where it gets confusing, is that Slifty is not actually a VST instrument, but rather a VST effect. So even though it produces its own sound, it sits in the place inside your host where an effect normally would.
So to record Slifty's sound, one has to record the audio coming from that track, in the same way you would record the audio from that track if Slifty were a "normal" effect processing existing audio.
Does this clear things up at all?

k, yeah, i figured all that out...it was just troubleshooting that last part, rendering to .wav...
getting good results playing with filter fx section while slifty is recording.
after having gone through the prog now, i'd like to recommend to andreas, since he's updating, that the gui regarding the "level" and "division" parameters in the track and sequencers windows leaves something to be desired. this program is harder than most to get the beat right where you want it.
just offering my advice, because out of my recent downloads, slifty intrigues the user more than most.

which "level" do you mean?
about division:
think of it as a "speed" parameter for the sequencer..in "bars per step"...
set it to 1/16 and it plays 16 slifty sequencer steps per bar ,
set it to 1/4 and it plays 4 steps in a bar,etc...

sorry, not level, i meant length...ok i'll keep a closer eye on the division settings. the problem as i see it is using the length setting in conjunction with the division setting. it's just rather complex that's all. i can't seem to get a handle on it.
