I agree.ghettosynth wrote:That's a WEAK definition of soundware. By that definition, your soundcard is soundware as is virtually every other plugin.highkoo wrote:Stuff like the 'DJ Frog' thing come to mind for me.
Or the dancing girl in FLStudio...
I guess they could be considered 'soundware' if the sound signal is technically going through them though, albeit untouched. Dunno.
Didnt someone make some kind of videogame in Reaktor?
I was posting non-soundware, per your request.
Here, let me muddy it up;
Take DJ Frog.
The sound passes through it.
Does it matter whether or not the sound signal is actually used for anything?
Say in one version, the frog bops its head to the bpm, and in another, the sound signal has no effect and passes straight through the plug.
Is one 'soundware' and the other not? I dont think either are, but there is a big conceptual difference imo.

Dang - no chance I'll ever finish my "little" 2voice-synth in time

I am developing synths with REAKTOR since years for free. So please download them from user library and vote!

It's a shame that REAKTOR-ensembles are out.
ciao herw

Hi Andrew,Ichad.c wrote:Dang - no chance I'll ever finish my "little" 2voice-synth in timeWill be freeware someday though. Kinda a mashup in Synthedit with a lot of custom c++ coding - hence not being able to finish in time...
....

Andrew
you disclose lots of great ideas, I am really curious!
For the finishing "in time": Perhaps you can narrow your list
a little - so that you have a realistic chance to finish in time ...

I think that his point was that lumping them with soundware fails to acknowledge that some "developers" choose to use reaktor. It should be patently obvious that herw's creations are the result of far greater development effort than the overwhelming majority of simple SE/SM synths.Ben [KVR] wrote:They aren't. On top of that, every serious synth developed in Reaktor gives the community more than just a synth.
I get it from a practical perspective; another category just dilutes the prize pool. I just think that the result will be that there simply won't be many reaktor entries. IMHO, it's probably better to just simply not allow them rather than simultaneously disrespect the soundware creators and reaktor devs.
If I'm completely wrong, I'd love to hear an explanation that makes sense.

Totally agree. Soundware and such was a good idea at first but the DC should be more focused on real development, like Plugins / Tools etc.ghettosynth wrote:I think that his point was that lumping them with soundware fails to acknowledge that some "deveopers" choose to use reaktor. Herws Ruhr is great and for me it would be better to make seperate challange for Reaktor builders later to get a serious voting.

I don't use reaktor - and thus I don't understand this debate!:(ghettosynth wrote:I think that his point was that lumping them with soundware fails to acknowledge that some "developers" choose to use reaktor. I use Cubase and Halion, so I can appreciate VSTs, VSTis and sample-sets. And of course, the later (sample-sets) should be assigned to a seperate category IMO.
Greetings.

Are any commercial devs entering this year? I know Urs did triple cheese one year...
What would be great (I think) would be a separate part of DC '12 where some big name devs compete for best freeware vst(i). Ya know, not for prize money , but for pure (fun) competition....

@ ghettosynth: I think youve taken up enough space in this thread now, its time to allow people room to get back on topic. Instead of all these walls of texts you should have taken it to a separate topic. No offense intended, but no care was given if you took some anyway,
