I don't think that's weird at all; Full > Elements = downgrade, even if some aspects might be superior because of the higher version number. Do you know many other software companies that offer (a discount on) such a downgrade?tehlord wrote:Weird upgrade path
I wanted to buy Cubase Elements 8 so I can use it on my Macbook without a dongle, but as a full Cubase 6.5 owner there's no direct upgrade path, but there is if I had Elements 6/7?![]()
So if I spent less in the past, I get a bigger discount now?

Cakewalk always have been doing that - former customers are always a customer and is rewarded for getting another Cakewalk product. They have upgrade/crossgrade paths for any of their daw products - that are to some degree discounted.T-CM11 wrote:I don't think that's weird at all; Full > Elements = downgrade, even if some aspects might be superior because of the higher version number. But how many more, I don't know.
I tend to stick with those that treat me well.

Whether buying Cubase Elements 8 is a downgrade or not I find it odd that somebody that has 4-5 other steinberg products in their account isn't eligible for some kind of discount.
In any case I have a couple of LE6 licenses in my account I can use for a lesser discount, so it's still relatively cheap.

Just a quick Q for the Elements users, maybe even those with dual screen.
Do you also encounter "white bars" to the left and right of both the arranger and Mixing Console?
And I seem to remember with C8.0 Pro that the Background was "transparent" with the new "Mac Like" toolbar. But I do get a grey background on Dual Screen? Well, at least I don't run into the menu offset bug over here.
Still don't know what to think of C8 though - not seeing any real value with the 150bucks upgrade from 7.5 to C8.0 Pro. The tabs are interesting, but the GUI is just... meh. Especially the new zoom bars. And I hate the "glow effects" with full blown AERO (can't use AERO "Basic" - at least I can turn off the transparency - but the glass and zoom effects are still there sadly).
Oh - and a question for the Steinberg reps:
The C8 EL installer asked me to update the Halion Sonic SE and Padshop SE content. I said "keep it as is". What if I would have updated that and later uninstall C8 again. Will the status of my samples be reverted to C7? Or can I even use the content in C7.x's Halion Sonic?

I don't have such "white bars" or I couldn't notice them.Compyfox wrote:Just a quick Q for the Elements users, maybe even those with dual screen.

The background is not transparent when I close the arranger window (for example) and stays only the "Macky" tool bar. It is grey.
I don't find these things annoying. I still think it is ahead of Elements 7, which I uninstalled it because I don't need it anymore. I still like Elements 6 in my laptop though as I can't install Elements 7 or 8 there in addition to my desktop! It tells me of deprecated e-licenser error!!
Elements 6 and 8 are my favourite being I prefer the colours of version 6 more than the dark ones. But version 8 still nice anyway and have many additional features.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

I did but when I try to add the e-licenser serial in my Steinberg, it gives me that error. I didn't contact the support though. But maybe I will.chk071 wrote:Hm, maybe update the eLicenser software?EnGee wrote:I still like Elements 6 in my laptop though as I can't install Elements 7 or 8 there in addition to my desktop! Loving the new plugin manager btw. Just wanted to say that.
Easy to use, and has everything i need to be able to sort my plugins. I really disliked that they were sorted by the folders they were in, especially as some installers create folders, others do not etc. so it was a big mess of a list before. Now i can sort them the way i want them to be sorted, nice.

Hi
Thank you for your great site.
I was wondering if you might have some insight into something I am experiencing with Cubase 8 on Windows 8 with 32G RAM and an i7 processor with revo drives.
For some reason even with this power it can't handle too many plugins.
When I view the system performance the computer isn't using more than about 6G of RAM, so it has loads spare.
Is there something that can be done within the DAW to make it use the system more efficiently that you know of?
I would be most grateful for any help.
All the best
Tim.

Are you using an audio interface or some built-in sound chip? Laptop or desktop?
In any case, your buffers are probably set too low.
