I remember only too well when Bitwig was very late compared to expectations and at one point only cat pictures seemed to be able to release the tension in that epic thread. Back then we were making jokes which one would be released first (I personally would actually have expected Epoch to be that), now Bitwig was released almost 2 years ago already...
Like always, the human mind is totally unable to deal with not-knowing.
For Colin it is maybe all very clear, makes sense, has a certain structure, milestones, things to do and fix and improve.
Measured time. Meaning.
Everybody else is just standing in front of the door with the "Back in 5 minutes" sign that is hanging there for what seems like forever with no way to guess if it will be tomorrow or another 10 years...
The human condition in a nutshell
Cheers,
Tom

Sorry , but I did not tell you the one and only rule for this thread:
No cat pictures, please!
This is a serious thread for waiting people

I bet a short video clip of Epoch in action could dissipate a lot of the tension in this subforum. I'm sure a few of the interested lurkers and posters in the Epoch thread are starting to wonder if we weren't catfished with some photoshops and fancy advertising copy and tricked with a fake project into brand loyalty.

Even resisting temptation to add new features - something I'm absolutely against until you patient lot have at least had a play with it - all these little tweaks and fixing of inconstancies have been a much larger drain on time than I'd have anticipated. As I've said before, I've not made a single change than I've not felt was worth the extra development time. But your patience is very much appreciated, and the continual "I can't wait to get my hands on this", excited emails and PMs are the fuel that keeps me going through the late night development sessions. Cheers guys!

Don't burn yourself out man. May I humbly suggest getting more hands onboard for the next project.

Burn out? Pah: I'm one of those "run 10k before breakfast" types; constitution of an ox! Thanks for the advice though Rich.
The next few projects are much humbler in scope so I'm hoping to shrink the gap between announcement and release to weeks, rather than years.

Just don't announce until ready, no need to shrink anything
No disrespect mean't here at all, but if you announce early, it tends to help the hype if you constantly show updates every few weeks at least, these little image or video snippets generate way more chatter and interest, announcing early and then showing either nothing or very little, like you have done, has no positive impact at all.
That is not to say the project is not going to be a good one, just that the early announcement was entirely pointless vs could have been very powerful interest builder.

Do you see this project eventually reaching a stage where a public beta might be feasible? If you've frozen the feature set, you are presumably in beta already. A public beta might help you to nail down any glaring issues, while giving the rest of us something to play with.

Yes, and hopefully soon. The current goal is to ensure that everything is consistent; that is, I aim to not have to have too many awkward backwards compatibility modes or legacy support issues. This has basically meant ensuring that everything has a logical consistency: if one module responds to such and such event, then a similar module should also respond similarly to the same event.
