It gets even weirder:

You might see game companies working directly with DAW guys like Cakewalk to build the next versions of Guitar Hero - but it wouldn't be like the GH that we're all familiar with - they'd create the virtual environmental overlays to go with the performers software - the performer (or event MC) would see the 'god world' and be in control of queues, permissions, etc.while the audience would have their own thing & be interacting -

This, of course, could be done remotely - people could participate in a live event in the safety & comfort of their homes - imagine a global streaming deadmaus concert where everyone that's wearing an OR has another layer of performance - is able on some level to participate (or even personally customize/randomize their own experience of the event to taste)

I'm happy you think desktop pcs will be as common place in ten years as they are now
I don't think that at all. Can you quote me on that so I'd know the source of your misinterpretation?

It's damned futuristic, I know, but it looks like we're on the brink of a 'steamroller' technology that's going to come in & change everything.

And boy have we seen the whole music scene change over the past half century that a lot of us have been around!

From expensive & unreliable monophonic synths to itb - it really didn't take that long.

So whats all this sh!t going to look like in 10 years, OP? F!ck if any of us knows. But it *is* going to change; and probably a lot - that I'm sure of, with recent history being the best indicater.

Here's something to take a look at and ponder (sorry for the pop-up)

Understand that we're at the 'just getting started' point -

20 years from now you download a copy of Cubase 8.5 on kvr-abandon-audio.com; and the schematics of an ancient 2016 i7 PC, which you send to your friendly neighborhood 3D printer. All very retro then. :D

10-years from now we'll all be dead as door nails following WW3 instigated by Trump.
Only the blonde hair and blue eyed folk will have survived.
"I was wondering if you'd like to try Magic Mushrooms"
"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

Agreed. They embraced touch screens before anyone else.

Maybe odder will be the people who choose to be the virtual concert-goers, backstage floozies, security guards, and concession stand workers.

Uncle E wrote:I can imagine Native Instruments developing a more standard DAW, something not connected to the Maschine hardware. Or maybe it would integrate Maschine and Traktor into a Live kind of environment.

In any case, 10 years is a long time and I'm sure we'll see another revolution in DAW's that's as big as Live and Reason were.
Uncle E do you think it would be smarter for them just to do something that integrates with maschine and traktor? I was thinking whatever it is it has to have hardware. Make you make maschine and create a song mode where we can create a linear arrangement. Uncle E watch this video from artist mark de clive-

Go to 22:10. What do you think? I think E they are redoing the sequencer. But obviously he has seen stuff we haven't scene. Also, with komplete noticed over the years they have been consolidating the komplete line with focusing on reaktor and kontakt. I also have taken four NI surveys this year.

Yes, that seems to be what he's saying in the video. At the same time, he's pretty enthusiastic about it so I imagine it's more than just a re-hash of the way every other DAW does it. I could definitely see them coming out with an NKS mixing surface with proper faders, which could be that hardware component you're thinking of.

It's how they started. Reaktor was first and Kontakt was second. Besides Maschine and Traktor, I believe all their products over the years have been derived from Reaktor and Kontakt.

Im pretty sure they had a few products out before Kontakt. Most have since been discontinued, but Pro52 and B4 were 2000, Absynth and Spektral Delay were 2001. Kontakt came out the same year as FM7, 2002.

In 10 years time, no one will make or listen to music any more. Instead IOS and Android OS will have context sensitive, optimized, automatic beat generators that will supersede music. All of the obsolete desktop PCs, guitars, and keyboards will be thrown out and end up in landfills.

:hihi: - it's actually easy to see all of that happening!

How about being a virtual roadie or a sound-check man? Imagine doing a virtual walk-around on a stage before a given band plays - it'd be super fun to see just what equipment & patches, etc. they're using -

The future of NAMM might involve virtual walk-throughs - mind-boggling stuff -

Someone mentioned vinyl making a comeback. I see it as being part of a larger trend that'll peter out in a decade. Look at the big picture - we have new plugins to emulate ancient hardware - we have new Mustangs and Chargers and Camaros that look like 40 yo designs. Money is chasing the luxury and nostalgia markets - but Boomer and Gen X'rs won't be around forever. Notice as soon as you get out of the luxury, nostalgia, and hobby (including music) markets, prices go south.

I can pick up a new 4K Tv for less than the price of certain plugin packages, Think about it. This can't last. Joe sixpack and the millennials are broke.

10 years ago Cubase, Ableton, Logic, Pro-Tools etc. had more or less the same functions than nowaday's versions. I mean, musically speaking you always get the same results, no matter what version being used.

The only difference: no need for mouse and keyboard in 2026. Maybe just one of those virtual reality goggles and a pair of gloves as controllers, putting notes, playing instruments and turning knobs in the air like possessed idiots. For the rest, same results as in 2006.

Regarding Propellerhead: Reason will become a tiny 0.99$ iphone app or smth (just my 99 cents).
