I was thinking about the future and I was wondering where you see companies like:
-Apple
-Presonus
-Motu
-Native Instruments
-Cockos
-Cakewalk
-Steinberg
Do you see any of these companies folding in the future? Will they continue will develop of their DAW? Where do you see your favorite DAW down the line? Just curious everyone's thoughts.
If anyone has maschine I am curious to know how you see it long term? I'm wondering how they are going to continue to develop the hardware/software together. For studio one how do you see it long term? More hardware integration down the line? Maybe they add notation and video editing stuff etc.

Right now the companies I would doubt will be around in 10 years are: Propellerheads (Shrinking market share, outdated product), bitwig (too new), Sonar (on a downward path already) and Avid (financial problems since a long ago, bad bussiness model, they won't dissapear but they will probably will be bought by another company, maybe apple).
Apple, Steinberg, Ableton, Presonus, NI, Motu I would bet that they will be around in 10 years.

No, I don't see any reason that any of them will fold within the next 10 years, but beyond that, who knows how long the DAW revolution will last and if/how these companies will adapt to the next big thing in audio production?beatmangler443 wrote: -Apple

Of course. That's what keeps them in business. And, they're all going to have to keep up with the ever-changing computer technologies.beatmangler443 wrote:Will they continue will develop of their DAW?
Maybe it's just me, but the trend seems to be that many DAWs are becoming more and more similar to one another.
Good question. It seems like NI is starting to paint Maschine into a corner and I'm not sure that I like the direction they've taken with it (i.e., becoming more DAW-like).beatmangler443 wrote:If anyone has maschine I am curious to know how you see it long term? Apple will be on top, because they are the best company ever...in the history of companies.
Cakewalk is a dead fish already.
Worst company ever created.
I don't give them another year.
Their anti-Apple stance is the reason why.
Bunch of hacks.

Look out that you'll be around in ten years the rest is negligible.
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

First off this thread is kind of pointless. And I find this comment rather funny as I will never buy anything Apple and I love Cakewalk Sonar. Each to their own, I guess.mcnoone wrote:Apple will be on top, because they are the best company ever...in the history of companies.

The odd one out here is Native Instruments as they don't do DAWs (as of yet that is)beatmangler443 wrote:I was thinking about the future and I was wondering where you see companies like:

Steinberg has been in the game for over 30 years, I don't see them folding
MOTU almost as long as Steinberg
Apple/Logic since the early 90's

I have a feeling that, out of that list, we won't see Cakewalk and Cockos in 10 years from now. Of course, very difficult to say, so take this with a pinch of salt. Especially with Cockos, who knows what Justin Frankel will be up to in future times.

You realize Cakewalk has been in business for over 25 years? And for those entire 25 years have had an anti-Apple stance and been quite successful doing it as well.mcnoone wrote:Apple will be on top, because they are the best company ever...in the history of companies.

As for being in trouble, Apple is the one who stock seems to be constanly dropping so you may want to re-think your prediction.

The other day I saw a computer chronicle prog from the early 90's about the rise of the laptops, and the decline of the desktopsUncleAge wrote:Will there be a big enough demand for desktop computers in 10 years is a more relevant question imo.
More than 20 years later the desktops are still here...

Well unless DAWs become less resource-hungry (yeah right) or the tablets can run 12 cores (yeah right again), I think there will still be desktops for a while.UncleAge wrote:Will there be a big enough demand for desktop computers in 10 years is a more relevant question imo.
