How can you even begin to compare the two examples you posted? :scared:
Urs, Layzer is the forum's "Free can do anything paid can do" advocate. You kind of just have to take what he says with a grain of salt and let it roll off your back.

You'll live longer.

Well, that might be a bit unkind, LOL! But, there is certainly a wide range of experience here on KVR and not everyone is sensitive to the differences that drive higher quality emulations.
Don't get me wrong. I've listened to his stuff. Even follow him on Soundcloud. He is very good at what he does. We just disagree on the philosophy of free vs paid in general.

I suggest making more music, while using
fewer mind altering drugs. "ho-hum"? Really? :dog:

And a wild fanboy appears!

Observer how it froths and eyes bulge, while it screams incoherent nonsense it made up.

I'm painfully pedantic, even when frothing,
and technically, I'm a 'fanboi', a subspecies
known to magically appear before sunrise.

Of course it's misunderstood, have no proper tutorials, made for fanboys, lacks important features, alpha UI was way better than release UI but I'm having several bazille fx channels in every track.
Murderous duck!

I have to agree. I'm not even a fan of CEM filters and I bought it on introduction just because it's such a fine soft synth. I understand the reason for products like Hive, and I also understand the criticism of emulations, I'm not really that impressed by them, per se, either. But, if it takes emulations to drive sales to keep really good sounding soft synths coming, then I prefer that to creating products that appeal to the CPU whiners.

At this point I'm more surprised by threads that maintain a semblance of sanity.

Once released I feel u-he has lost interest in Bazille and HIVE

There has hardly been any updates since Bazille got released a couple of years back:

At least release some free new patches now and again to keep interest in the product. To get newbies to know about the products, that is a way to promote it after release date.

Another method is to do sales now and again, but I guess that is not possible?

I don't really think i need extra stuff in Bazille. For me, it is a finished product.
Maybe U-He will decide to add/change the filter (after Repro-1's research). But even the filtertype is really nice. I dunno, i like the synth as it is, to be honest. With Hive the same.

They both do what i want, they do it easy, stable and with high quality. I'd rather see them focussing on Z3

I guess that's a matter of perspective. Bazille is complete, other than bug-fixes, what would updates do? I want to see the next incarnation of Berlin Modular, not Bazille 2.0. A lot of people release patch libraries. Tell you what, I'll make one over the Christmas break, and you, but only you, can have a free copy. There, how's that?

How many patches do you want in your library and what kind of sounds would you like?

wagtunes wrote:Except why would those people buy something like Bazille anyway? If they're musicians, wouldn't they buy something more middle of the road or "commercial" like a sylenth1 or a Spire or whatever the synth du jour is that you open up and just make music with? Bazille is the last synth a musician would buy if that's the case.
I don't know how typical I am, but fwiw...

I bought Bazille (I think there was an opening offer) and I never use it. Some of the sounds I heard were absolutely stunning. I like bread and butter, I like esoteric, I like diverse - well hey, I bought Bazille. However, I find two problems between me and Bazille - one is particular to Bazille, the other is common to pretty much all U-he stuff.

The first problem is really easy - it's really complicated. It requires a lot of time, patience and talent, and I lack all three. The second is a whole bundle of U-he-isms that don't personally chime with me. They are always emulating hardware, not only sonically but - crucially - in terms of the UI. I rarely - if ever - really get on with a soft synth that is pretending not to be. I need it to embrace its essential computerness, and to play to those strengths. Further, this extends to presets, which for U-he seem to exist in industry-worst browsers, put into broad categories then arranged by patch designer of all things. For me, its the opposite of user friendly, so I don't even get the most hand-holding way in. If it came surrounded by barbed-wire and a 6 foot trench filled with boiling oil, I couldn't find it any less inviting.

All of which is a terrible shame, because there is absolutely no doubting the sheer sonic quality and inventiveness. Bazille was a learning experience for me - not in learning programming, but learning what sort of soft synths I like. I really hope that one day U-he will evolve their UIs and browsers, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm very happy for all of U-he's loyal fans, and not in a patronising way - they have great tools and like using them. I wish that were true for me, but sadly it isn't.

I don't know if you misunderstood my post.

I don't crave more patches in particular (more is always nice though ;) )

But releasing patch expansions now and then gives the dev chance to bump the thread of an older synth again and again, to bring it up and to the attention to new/possible buyers.

Another thing a dev could do is to release "tips & tricks" vids on youtube, to also be able to bump the threads of old synths with new info, time and again.
