Soundcloud is running out of cash

Bandcamp and Soundcloud should have joined together, they complement each other so well, Bandcamp lacks the chat and notifications/social aspect of Soundcloud, and Soundcloud lacks a way to purchase directly.
They are late to the streaming mainstream music competition, although in theory they have the extra bonus of the amateur tracks and mixes, but the Soundcloud Go aspect is really badly marketed. They need to make it really obvious what it is, and also redesign the interface for that type of functionality. Spotify may well wait and buy them cheaper and then add Soundclouds library to there own service.

My personal experience with Soundcloud chat and notifications always was nothing but terrible. Stucked/repeating notifications, new messages in chat I wasn't even notified about... Experienced this on different mobile devices, operating systems and browsers.projectdan wrote:Bandcamp and Soundcloud should have joined together, they complement each other so well, Bandcamp lacks the chat and notifications/social aspect of Soundcloud, and Soundcloud lacks a way to purchase directly.

I can't agree that Soundcloud is "the best platform in existence for unsigned artists to present their work to the world." The spam-infested comment system and the discontinuation of artist-friendly features render it essentially unusable as far as I'm concerned, and the lesser concerns of sound quality and technical glitches seal my antipathy (although I could live with those issues but for the main problems above). I find Bandcamp and Spotify (through Distrokid) to be much more effective (and much less annoying) publicity tools at this point, with the occasional Clyp.it thrown in if I need a quick embedded stream.Izak Synthiemental wrote:I really don't get the hostility against Soundcloud. I think it's still the best platform in existence for unsigned artists to present their work to the world. Yes, lately they have ventured into Spotify / Apple Music / Google Play / Tidal territory, but I guess this was necessary in order to explore other sources of income, since their former business model alone was not sufficient in a profitable sense (= didn't generate the funds necessary to run such a large scale operation and gain profit).
I think we should rather support Soundcloud and those of us who have ambitions as an artist should use their service, use the advantages of the Pro account at some point.

For real. It's just horrendous. And yet like t...p, and f....x n...ws, it's insanely popular.el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote:Vortifex wrote:More like Trapcloud. Have you heard their top 50? It's a selection of autotuned trap artists rapping like they've just had a wisdom tooth extraction.![]()

"SoundCloud’s struggle is taking place while there’s renewed investor interest in streaming music."
well i know sc doesnt realize this...but they arent a streaming music site.
ive said it before and ill say it again...sc shot themselves in the foot when they abandoned their original core customers in some idiotic short sighted attempt at becoming a streaming audio service.
soundcloud is (was) a repository for artists, so they had an easy place to share their work...not a source of entertainment where listeners go to stream content. the attempt to switch from the former to the latter was ill conceived and plain old stupid.

Still, there used to be temporary issues from time to time. But nothing permanent.

Never saw this before. Any widget, not dependent on web site, when play button is hit will appear to start, but clock does not advance,(I can manually advance it) and file does not play. Everything else looks normal.
Flash,Firefox, all up to date. Switching between Flash or HTML player makes no difference. Player works at the SC site, but not widgets elsewhere.

I know now it's just my notebook PC. They will play OK with my other PCs.
Wish I knew what is wrong, I listen to Cafe music on this notebook only.
Knowing it's me, this thread is not the place for this talk.

How many of you would be interested if soundcloud added a soundcloud.com/me tab that is focused on just the user? i.e. it contains only the user's own sounds (private), with support for search.

wtf I just went to the site of someone I've been following for ages and suddenly all I can hear are 'previews"? It's always been the full versions before. Is this some ploy to gouge me for more money on top of my Pro account?
