Reaper is setup with just one track with Connector on it. Record Output (MIDI) and input MIDI (all channels) are the two relevant track settings (and record :) )
But Reaper wont record midi and audio on the same track at the same time, so you cant have a synth playing on the Reaper track and record that at the same time as record the midi driving the synth on the same track. It is not a problem to send the midi to another track tho so you can have the midi playing the synth and recording its output on one track, then route the midi from that synth track to another track and record the midi there a the same time.
Tried what you suggested, but it still wouldn`t work.. so I repeated your suggestions on a fresh new project + tracks.. and it finally worked!

Thx for the tips m8! Much appreciated! :tu:

Tried to get a midi output from bc connector in Ableton Live. As soon as the BC Connector is in a MIDI track it seems to be seen as an audio effect.
So looking back through the thread it seems the advice was to try putting it inside Patchwork, but even doing that and marking it as MIDI in and out to host I don't seem to be able to get MIDI back.
Annoying as was trying to set up a Voltage Modular FX track to send one batch of MIDI back and use BC connector to send a second instance of MIDI through in order to get around Live's strange behaviour with multi-out MIDI tracks (where they all default to output on channel 1).

Needless to say this works fine in Bitwig.
But, just can't seem to find a way to get this to work in Ableton.

Any ideas anyone?

Are you using the VST2 version of Connector or PatchWork? I am not sure Live actually handles MIDI out for VST3 plug-ins.

I think so, but will double check next time I’m at the PC

An USB wired connection would be perfect.

Hello,
Are you planning to add visual activity for midi in/out?
At the moment, as far as I can tell, BC Connector only shows audio activity.
Thank you!

Yes, it would indeed be very useful!

For those struggling with Ableton live:
1. Make sure you are using the VST version of the plug-in.
2. Follow Live MIDI routing tutorial. Just replace the first "MIDI track" by "Audio track". It should work exactly the same way.

Watch out! There's some great new stuff to play with in the Blue Cat lab :-)

The "lab" is the room where stuff happens, so it's not (yet) available to the outside world. Soon as a preview for existing customers, though!

On your screenshot, we can see that you are using a buffer of 64 samples in "local host" mode. What machine do you have? Because on my side, with the latest macbook pro and its M1-Pro chip, with applications in native M1 mode, I don't have stable operation below 256 samples... Do you have any tips for improving this buffer on a Mac like mine?

I got this working. The issue I was having in Ableton Live was that I couldn't directly go from Patchwork in one track to send to a MIDI out to a hardware instrument, but I realised today I could select that track as 'Sends Only' then use a separate track to take its input from [My MIDI track]/BC Patchwork and then send that on to my synth and that worked fine.

Edit: Though I find it's crashing a lot and/or not passing the notes. I was using voltage modular to output the MIDI, I'll try a different plugin.

Edit #2: Yes, using VCV Rack seems more stable. Also adding more connectors wasn't working until I added them as Local Network using different ports then they could pick up the traffic.
So, connector one on plugin side using 8080, connector one on DAW side using 8080.
connector 2 on plugin side using 8081, connector 2 on DAW side using 8081.
connector 3 on plugin side using 8082, connector 3 on DAW side using 8082.

Any tips for getting Connector inside the current (demo) version of Patchwork to receive MIDI, or is that currently not possible? it seems to connect but no matter how I set the MIDI output and MIDI input in my VST nothing is received there.
