We shall see orchestral machines with a thousand new sounds, with thousands of new euphonies, as opposed to the present day's simple sounds of strings, brass, and woodwinds. -- George Antheil, circa 1925 ---

you're possibly misremembering.
OTT started life as a preset for the Multiband Dynamics plug-in in Ableton Live.

My dspplug smooth plug-in is the most disturbingly destructive thing I've tried that still sounds intelligible. The naming was a sarcastic convention ^^. I always get a giggle thinking of that. Sometimes, I try it and then I think "ugh, this is terrible" and then when I turn it off, I realize that sound with it was more interpretable; what that means heaven only knows.

Only a few have the right of course but that could "break the mold" and life is much too short to speculate about "conspi theoremz" which in this case I'm shuddering to write about because then its going such a complicated direction but you know what I mean.
nope, not a bloody clue. strong stench of bullshit.

Auto tune by far. Even when used for proper editing of audio it adds a gross little buzzing to the sound. I'm including all retuning tools in this. I'd prefer the dumb over the top "special effect" usage any day over the "tuned to exact Equal Temperament" and "nudged exactly to every grid point" use that is heard in more standard pop, country and rock music.

L1 would be a close number 2 for me. I'd rather hear hard clipping in almost any scenario.
