Assuming that Albino Legend will be released before Explorer 9, it would be great if they offer a pre-pay for the Explorer 9 upgrade when Albino Legend is released to get it right away and then get the Explorer 9 package when it's released. That said, I didn't receive the newsletter for some reason, so maybe I'm confused - maybe the Explorer 9 bundle will be released first or simultaneously?Teksonik wrote: Wed Oct 04, 2023 10:23 pm I was wondering, since Albino Legend and Go2 X will be included in Explorer 9 would it be better for those of us who own Explorer 8 just to pay the upgrade price to 9?

I think I'm confused.
From the newsletter:
"November will be a big month for the Rob Papen brand! In the 2nd half of November, we are planning the release of eXplorer-9, Go2-X, and Albino-3 Legend!
eXplorer-9 will include Go2-X, and Albino-3 Legend as the first new products in this bundle!"
Customers purchasing or upgrading to eXplorer-8 now will get a free upgrade to eXplorer-9!
The free upgrade to eXplorer-9 also includes eXplorer-8 purchases made during September 2023".
I don't know where those of us who have owned Explorer 8 for quite some time stand or what the 8 to 9 upgrade will cost.
For me since I apparently sold on the RP version of Albino 3 some time in the past the expense would be $99 for Albino Legend and $25 for the Go2 X upgrade if he counts owning Go 2 as part of the E8 as qualifying for the upgrade price. I used to own a separate Go 2 license before upgrading to Explorer but that license no longer shows in my account. It's all wrapped up in the E8 license.
So $124 for me and I'm thinking the E8 to E9 upgrade price will be less? I'll try to ask during the live stream tomorrow.
I hate to cheap out on Rob as he's been good to me over the years but there isn't much in my software budget these days so I need to get the best bang for the buck.

Hasn't the explorer to explorer upgrade price always been $74? I imagine the current, non-grace period explorer 8 owners will have to pay the $74 for the update. Sucks for being an early adopter I suppose...doesn't suck for those of us who waited and now got 2 explorers for the price of one. But ya'll got to use BLUE III and BIT 2 for longer (explorer 8 was very weak in my opinion), so...

The only info on the filters from the original user manual is this:VELLTONE MUSIC wrote: Wed Oct 04, 2023 5:09 pm There was CREAM filter or mode, can't remember exactly ,but the sound was impressive.
Any idea what was that cream filter,is it emulation of something or their original filter type?
Filters
The Albino 3 contains four types of filter: "Silk," "Cream," "Scream," and"Comb." The first three of these are multi-mode filters, each having adifferent design. A lot of care and attention has been paid to the Albino 3'sfilter design in order to make them especially "musical" and to ensure thatthey use very little CPU resources

And adding Albino 3 and Go2 X makes Explorer 9 not weak? Or do you mean what was added between E7 to E8 was weak?
There are some fantastic instruments and effects in the E8 bundle now. Blue 3 (worth the upgrade price alone), Predator 3, Bit 2, Blade 2,SubBoom Bass 2, Vecto, Quad, Raw, Go 2, RG, Punch 2, etc not to mention all the FX plugins, some of which were added for free after I purchased the E8 bundle.
For what I've paid for the Explorer 8 (even factoring in what I paid for individual instruments over the years going all the way back to the original Blue) it was a fantastic bargain so no hard feelings here.
I originally purchased Albino from Linplug and still have a serial number from them but I think I must have sold on the version that was registered at RP because it's no longer in my account.
But my point is that it would be better for me (and anyone else in the same position) to pay the 8 to 9 upgrade price than pay $99 for Albino Legend and $25 for Go 2 X. That is if the 8 to 9 upgrade is still going to be $74. Well worth that price and we'll probably get a freebie or two added to the bundle over time before E10 comes out.
No you just got E8 with the two extra plugins added to 9.hurricaneaudiolab wrote: Wed Oct 04, 2023 11:51 pm doesn't suck for those of us who waited and now got 2 explorers for the price of one.

True, but I paid $74 once for all of that.
I meant explorer 7 to 8 was weak. V9 at least has the "new" Albino. Rob Papen basically makes the same synth over and over again, just adds some unique quirks to make them appear different. Quad, Vecto, Go2, Predator...they're really all the same to me. Looks like he finally stretched it as much as he could and is now just patching his old devices.

There was conflict between Rob and Peter over the rights to Albino. Would be great if LinPlug came back out of retirement.

Bloody hell! My internet at home has been gone for a few days due to a truck ripping down the internet cable. And this is what happens. I have excellent memories of Albino, but ... (tldr etc) apart from nostalgia, does Albino have a place in the plugin landscape of today? Don't get me wrong. I love when old plugs get a new life. I got really happy to see Vanguard rise from the dead. But nostalgia aside, what does Albino bring to us today?
@Aloysius yeah me too. I got sad the way Rob and Peter were fighting about Albino. Felt like a bad divorce.

I was hoping somebody here to remember something about it ,if it was discussed back then, anyway.
Will check new/old Albino when demo is available, cause remember 10 years ago there wasn't many quality synths, but Sylenth1,Massive and Albino was exceptional.
In some cases Sylenth1 and Massive are still irreplaceable ,if Albino worth it,will add it to the collection.
Cheers

Oh, didn´t see this coming, but happy to see Albino coming back!
I actually have it still installed and working on Windows, and on Mac in Rosetta 2 mode (which I prefer to not use), looking forward to this in VST3, AS and with resizeable UI
Pity that I have an old Linplug serial number that I can´t register with Rob Papen, guess it´ll be fullprice for me.

I bought explorer 8 at discount rather than just get Blue 3, which was already great value for money, but apparently the update to 9 is free, so looks like I'll get two more free synths. I recommend others check out their discount and see if it's worth it, especially if you will get Albino 3 too.

Do you know if he has a usual time of day for the live broadcasts?Teksonik wrote: Wed Oct 04, 2023 2:40 pm We'll probably get some more information tomorrow as Rob usually does a live stream on his YouTube channel on Thursdays.
I'll try to catch it when it's live as he does read and respond to some of the real time comments during the stream. Would be a good opportunity ask some questions about the Albino Legend and Go 2 X projects.
