could have been a glitch yesterday ( I have seen 219 euros then today back to 199 euro) but I bet this is their marketing strategy. Raise prices of full products and upgrades as well...

higher prices allow for bigger discounts, as furniture retailers demonstrate week-in/week-out (as well as plugin alliance).Robmobius wrote: Sat Jan 06, 2024 4:22 pm Could there be a technical glitch for these recent prices, or are they officially the new prices?
George has hinted that discounts on the upgrades are possible in the future. following the pattern of the cloud-sub wheeze, those offers may pop up once the dust has settled. and I wouldn't be surprised to see a return of the limited-number voucher sales real soon now.

Interesting... Of course, he can charge whatever he likes, and we can choose to vote with our wallets.gaggle of hermits wrote: Sat Jan 06, 2024 4:28 pmhigher prices allow for bigger discounts, as furniture retailers demonstrate week-in/week-out (as well as plugin alliance).Robmobius wrote: Sat Jan 06, 2024 4:22 pm Could there be a technical glitch for these recent prices, or are they officially the new prices?

I totally forgot about that cloud thing. LOL
Vouchers/discounts might be workable I suppose.
But I doubt many people will pay 200 yo-yos for a soft synth these days (but I do like Discovery Pro quite a bit). But Diva is 179e!

I can understand that George is trying to get as much money as he can out of his products but it just cannot be done at the expense of the customers, who aren't idiots.
Some people are great with DSP coding, others with GUI design and yet others with promotion and business decisions. When you try to do everything yourself, it can only work out up to a certain point.
Without trying to be condescending, maybe all George needs is help.

Yeah I don't think it's a glitch. Clearly there's a new pricing strategy. I would never have bought Corona at $199. It's a good synth with unique sounds and I like the new interface, but I expect premium quality for premium prices. Look at what else you can get in that price bracket.
DiscoDSP's preset system needs a complete overhaul, for me it's the worst thing about their synths. Look to u-he or Arturia for how to do it right.

As has been mentioned, just a marketing trick to make discounts more appealing. Knif Audio Knifonium costs $299... Brainworx bx_oberhausen $249... etc.
Until forever fades away.

Based on his very public history, it appears like sometimes dudes are just a**holes.Ghostwave wrote: Sat Jan 06, 2024 5:16 pm Without trying to be condescending, maybe all George needs is help.
I'm willing to give the guy another chance, but it looks like for a lot of people, this is probably strike THREE.
If he does need help with anything, it's customer service. And I don't know who that non-AI English speaking discoDSP rep is, but if he does in fact have some kind of customer-facing job at discoDSP, he's not doing so good a job at that, imo.

Didn’t think about that trick

What he should do is sell artist soundbanks, and skins to make more money.

This is actually a very good idea. I like the various skins on Discovery Pro, OB-Xd, etc. There is some real talent there.vertibration wrote: Sat Jan 06, 2024 7:09 pm What he should do is sell artist soundbanks, and skins to make more money.
Vendor‑Dependent Copy Protection: Customers lose. Pirates win.
(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

That's a highly highly ambitious price for Corona, IMO. For 200e I'd expect one of the best, if not the best, synths on the market.Vortifex wrote: Sat Jan 06, 2024 5:28 pm I would never have bought Corona at $199. I think it was an insult to customers to lock the other thread. It's the first time I have any criticism against DiscoDsp. If you want to commit suicide as a developer just begin to pick on customers that want value for money. The term "The customer is always right" has a meaning.
I could understand if the only people that complained about the upgrade price were people that didn't purchase anything from discodsp but that's not my impression.
People have the right to state their opnion as customers and discodsp should instead lower the upgrade price and focus on a real update with audio enhancement to make the synth sound better. I always thought that the sound of the synth was too synthetic and static in sound compared to other comparable synths. But I like the emulation anyway.

Can this be correct? KVR is showing that Discovery Pro has been updated to 8.1.0 just four days after 8.0 was released?
If that's true, why wouldn't discoDSP update any bug-fixes (or whatever they changed since the initial release) to something more like v8.0.1 or suchlike?
Four days between a 8.0 to an 8.1 seems like a big jump in version number, for what presumably must have been some very minor tweaks, or just bugfixes.
At that rate, they'll probably get to v9.0 in record-breaking time. Perhaps before the end of 2024.
But, maybe it's all just a KVR mistake?

Sure they dont have to listen to suggestions/complaints, thats okay.
I dont have to buy it then, sorted.
It is not that there are not enough VIs or so...I just dont understand killing your brand in such a way. Not very mature. And after that raising the prices to spite anyone or to give an impression of a higher reduction is such childish behavior, that I only can say (and do) is say farewell.
