I wonder what would take up more dev time over a few years, getting the plugin to do what it needs to on windows, or keeping the plugin working on new mac OS's

But furthermore we just recognized the macOS tech stack to be more robust and letting us deliver high quality software with a very very small team"

Of course, things may have changed since April 2024, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

Seems like there's a chance after all. It would be a Good Decision (TM).

Every time I see this topic title, it reads to me as Ford Tesla :clown:
CrimsonWarlock aka TechnoGremlin, Moved to Reason and Rack Extensions exclusively (from Reaper and VSTs) several years ago.

If this is true, I am extremely not looking forward to this, since JUCE runs like crap on macOS

Post

That is a highly generalized statement which you'd need to support with some hard numbers. Not all versions of JUCE would have the same UI performance necessarily, so first you'd need to know with which version of JUCE a plugin was built. There were some issues with OGL renderer back in JUCE 6 times but that's been resolved a long time ago.

What I know at least from Surge perspective we are not getting Mac users reporting any UI performance issues.

Also if Ess found it working well for their reverb plugin, it obviously has a decent enough performance. And I have no doubt that this decent performance is enabled by JUCE's option to use the Metal renderer on macOS.

Post

Well, looks like his new plugin Pivot, based on JUCE, is doing pretty well on macOS.

Also, just wanted to chime in about Tela. All synths... hell, all plugins, should have LFO's like Tela. This thing is cool asf.

VST3 would be nice though (even if still just on Mac) - just so I can use it in more hosts (especially NI Komplate Kontrol).

Forgot I need to update this when I have a moment - there are more now in my user folder - this synth is very inspiring

Well clearly my understanding about JUCE on macOS is wrong. Also Ess has said in the Pivot thread here that they might revisit Tela and make it multi platform.

Always a good thing.

These are very cool, thank you for sharing!

There are 70 patches now - the possibilities in this small plugin are so enormous:

There is a free plugin host/wrapper that loads CLAP and most other plugin formats except for AU (lv2, LADSPA, JS etc)

https://github.com/DISTRHO/Ildaeil

When it works it's very useful but unfortunately at the moment while it does load Tela if you browse to it, the interface is not loading correctly (although the generic interface works well enough). It's also prone to crashing but looks promising

Now 75 - enough I think to post these separately
