Hi. I just had a look at EVE One. Here are 2 things I noticed (is this the right place to post bugs?)

-knobs move circular with no option I could find to move linear (Like EVE 1.8)
-knobs and sliders 'lag' visually, also unlike EVE 1.8
-In legato mode, playing the same note over again doesn't retrigger like it should (ie. playing C3-C3-C3 quickly only results in one note until the first note fades)
-glide mode is missing the 'A' switch from EVE where glide is only applied to notes when more than one note is fingered at the same time.

hi liqih and aldo,
thank you for the beta. i had been looking forward to it.

i have some feedback for you (in no particular order):

1) i feel like the GUI could use an "LED read out" similiar to in EVE 1.x to show parameter values.

2) the output levels are noticeably quieter than EVE 1.x. The difference appears to be made up by the OUT GAIN knob in the master control section of EVE 1.x (the levels are approximately the same if I set EVE 1.x OUT GAIN to somewhere around -27 or so for a the same sound set on one layer). I know there is an MM Overdrive section to give a boost to the signal, but there is no way to get a clean boost like in EVE 1.x). Perhaps a Clean setting could be added to the OverDrive section, or rename the section to BOOST and rename the existing settings to MM Overdrive Transistor, MM Overdrive Tube and MM 12Bit. Then add a new setting called Clean.

3) Please add user-definable CC assignments (unless they are already there and i missed it). I usually use CC74 for Cutoff and CC71 for Res on all my synths and currently CC 71 is set to Cutoff, and nothing is assigned to Res.

4) the help screen currently shows CC71 assigned to Volume. This should be CC7.

5) the MIDI sync does not appear to work. Maybe i am missing something here, because i described this same problem in a thread concerning MIDI sync in EVE 1.8, but it does not appear to be affected by the host tempo, eg. the Echo is not affected as i change the host tempo (i tested in eXT 1.3). Again, perhaps i misunderstand how this is supposed to work, but it behaves much differently than how i have come to expect it to work from using wusikstation, for example.

6) there appears to be very little difference between the ECHO A and ECHO B settings (very subtle). ECHO C is only slightly thinner to my ear.
is this correct?

that's it for now.

really cool concept. looking forward to watching this baby evolve.. :)

yes thanks floyd
-knobs move circular with no option I could find to move linear (Like EVE 1.8)
we will add that, so far use Alt+clik
-knobs and sliders 'lag' visually, also unlike EVE 1.8
please translate, <grin>
-In legato mode, playing the same note over again doesn't retrigger like it should (ie. playing C3-C3-C3 quickly only results in one note until the first note fades)
thanks, we'll fix that

-glide mode is missing the 'A' switch from EVE where glide is only applied to notes when more than one note is fingered at the same time.
yes, one feature to add

we avoided that since EVE ONE is designed to be played "by ear", user should focus on sound IMHO

yes that's true, we could increase the Level parameter range so yiu can boost more the samples volume

ok, we'll see to improve MIDI CC support

4) the help screen currently shows CC71 assigned to Volume. This should be CC7.
my mistake, <grin>,
thanks

we'll check it and tell you more later about this

yes those are not extreme settings, just soft variations to be usable with any sounds,

what you would like more?
that's it for now.

Sorry, poor choice of words on my part. I'll try again - the knobs and sliders don't animate as smoothly as EVE 1.8.

1) Good point, but it was a choice. If we will get enough requests we will implement it in EVE ONE.

2) They aren't. It's the default setting that produces a very low sound. We will change it to a reasonable value in the next build. Try moving the "Level" knob to the right and rising a bit the master volume.

3) Thanks for finding the problem. Now EVE ONE responds correctly to both CC#71 and #74.

4) It's just a cosmetic issue and we didn't consider it priority for a beta. However I do understand that it makes EVE ONE hard to use. :(

5) Problem solved. It is a bug. Another bug I found fixing this one is that the display of the delay effect starts to show the values from 0X (should be 1X).

6) mmm... I do perceive a clear difference between echoes, especially due to the low pass filter in the setting "B" and to the high pass filter in mode "C". We tried to avoid extreme settings. Perhaps it's a matter of taste... advices?

Thanks for your feedback and detailed report, really appreciated it.
Some of the non-essential features of EVE 1.x may be missing from this instrument as we did our best to keep it as simple as possible.

yes, i see your point. it's certainly not strictly necessary, but i guess i missed it when i was trying to dial up some presets based on EVE 1.x and wanted to try to match some values. maybe there is no real correlation though...

not really sure. i was just surprised at how subtle it was given the prominence of the buttons. what exactly is the difference? is it an EQ thing?

Just an addition to the reply of Luigi.

According to the VST specification the choice between knob modes should be up to the host, not to the plug-ins. We'll try to add an option somewhere to force the knob mode to linear.

Right, fixing it right now :-)

i tried that, of course, but still felt it was significantly quieter than EVE 1.x at equivalent settings.

do you mean you changed it to CC74 = Cut and CC71 = Res? nice for me, if so, but still feel user-definable CC assignments would be sweet. :)

didn't make it hard to use, as i saw my default CC7 = volume assignment work correctly. just thought i would let you know about the cosmetic typo... :P :hihi:

excellent! please take a look at EVE 1.8 for this same bug.

no advice really. just surprised. so it's an EQ thing? i guess then it will be more or less noticeable depending on the sound being used. that's cool...

Thanks for your feedback and detailed report, really appreciated it.
thank YOU for the beta and your attention to details... :D

The MONO+LEGATO mode works this way. Am I missing something?

EVE ONE needs some fine tuning...

Mapped CC#74 to cutoff and CC#71 to filter resonance.
Custom CC assignment would be a nice feature but our effort is to try to keep EVE ONE as simple and efficient as possible, at the expense of some non essential features.

I'm afraid that EVE 1.8 cannot, by design, keep the delays synchronized with the host tempo.
6) mmm... I do perceive a clear difference between echoes, especially due to the low pass filter in the setting "B" and to the high pass filter in mode "C". We tried to avoid extreme settings. Perhaps it's a matter of taste... advices?
no advice really. just surprised. so it's an EQ thing? i guess then it will be more or less noticeable depending on the sound being used. that's cool...
Exactly. I'll try to explain.

The mode A (which should be called CLEAN) is merely a delay with a high pass filter set to 80Hz and a low pass filter set to 18kHz.

The mode B (which should be called WARM) is a delay with a high pass filter set to 80Hz and a low pass filter set to 2500Hz, with a slight distortion and a slight pitch modulation.
The pitch modulation on the delay basically does three good things:
- helps emulating the tape echo sound
- helps to remove the typical "metallic" ringing of delays (mode A can sound quite metallic with short times and high feedback values)
- gives a nice chorus like effect for short delay times.

Last, mode C has a narrow bandwith, more pitch modulation and more distortion.

None of the three modes have extreme settings; they must be musical, because we are mainly processing melodic and polyphonic instruments.

Hope this clarify the delay issues. If you have any advice post it here or feel free to write me.

Have fun!
Aldo.

Ok, I have d loaded the beta. Looks great, and the functionality is very nice.

The 'Sound Wizard is an EXCELLENT way to approach presets management. Good Job.

i hope you are kidding. :-o
how can that possibly be? it is, in fact by design, that it DOES sync to the host tempo (but is broken).

it states in the manual that it can be set to fractions of the BPM tempo in the VST host.

surely this was not intentionally changed!? that would be a show-stopper.

Not kidding.
What I was trying to say is that in EVE 1.x you can synchronize the delays with the tempo by pressing the sync button, but the delay time will not be changed when the host tempo changes. It's by design, it's not broken.
I really had no role in developing EVE 1, so I can only speak for what I see in the source code of EVE 1.x.

Eve ONE does follow the host tempo. It didn't in the first public beta because of a bug. Now I corrected the problem and I'm waiting for Luigi to release the new public beta.

Aldo.
