For me, it's just those black knobs that stick out as being out of place when all the rest of the knobs look like their off a Moog. the black knobs remind me more of a 303, and your skin looks more 'analogue/Moogish' to me than 'Metalic/Rolandish' if ya know what I mean? :D
I still feel you'd get a more consistent/solid vibe using a metalic style knob in place of the black knobs.
So you mean something like this, I think:

Perfect! :D

that's pretty much exactly what I was thinking!

The UI to my entry to DC09 was done entirely in Skinman & Knobman, apart from the paper background which was modified from a free texture
I really like that GUI. :) fun and playful.

I found detailing wood ends to be rather annoying in Skinman. I found myself breaking it down into 9-11 pieces to make it look correct, and would make the shadow with a rect under the wood that would extend above and below the canvas and the have to mess around with the layers under the wood to make it look right. Made a quick example of how I do it, slight embossing only for the right edge and even then it gets covered up by other layers, the wood here is 7 seperate pieces...I'd still have to finish the top corner but it;s 3:30am....

I didn't post the breakdown of the image :( was exhausted. Anyway, for those that are interested here is the break down of how I made the wood end. I'm not sure how the colors look, the monitor that I did this on is really off but the general idea is there...

for the bottom you will need to repeat 7-9 and shade to your needs.

Hope this isn't to rudimentary but perhaps useful for someone…

Yeah, that gives a more sharp bevel, which Skinman seems not to be able to do.
But my woodsides are hand sanded and have a slot flute for the front panel to fix in :D
So I just made one black diffused part under them:

no problem WOK.

I do find emboss in skinman to be a bit difficult. Its either not enough or too much. I did find that if I need a harder edge that I'll make slightly larger, exaggerate the emboss, then diffuse it, and drop the opacity a bit. This works really well if the background color is the same.

Knobman does better emboss, I think. But it doesn't emboss ext. graphics (used inv. shadow for this):

What do you think about the rest of my stepsequencer graphics? I am not a graphics artist, but I think it's quite good. Skinman needs 1 minute to load it and crashes every 10 minutes.....:? (because all textures are hold in memory I think).
I am not satisfied with the metal switch, though. I think I remember You did a smoother one, but the shadow was not right on that one.

I find that using large bitmaps as textures will increase the likelihood that Skinman will crash leave it out until last if you can.

Over all I think the GUI looks good. I agree the metallic looks need a touch of something. My only concern would be the round lamps, the metallic bevel looks fine. The inside lamp, the colored part, I don't essentially feel sold on, perhaps some light texturing or make them a metal embossing smaller. On the round knobs I think they need some sort of embossing on the inside shape, I've been assuming they would be done latter on. The white highlight in the corner decorations and bottom horizontal piece looks a bit too strong. The text on clock wok might be better if a uniform size.

I really like the buttons and the numeric readouts.

The lamps are edited version of the LED2 of synthedit, because I needed the ability to change the colours with the tinted bitmap module (and I did not completely understand how this works with the mask file to make new ones in knobman).

I ctrl-v'd the wrong blurg in the post. I think the metal part if smaller, tighter to the lamp would tie it up.

First many thanks for the very nice Knobs !! :)

But I have a problem with KnobMan:

I can't change the size?
With the Frames the same.

If I want to change the size in Preferences,
does the text box become yellow and everything remains with the original settings ?

What do I make wrong?

Many thanks in advantage for the help!

My system: WIN XP, AMD 2.4
