I agree.. SSE2 is long in the tooth.. I think they're up to SSE4.1 or so at this point.. AMD has had SSE2 support since 2003 in their processor lines (A64/Turion64), The low end Celeron, and even Atom! processors have SSE2 support.. shouldn't be hard to find a budget system these days with support for SSE2.
