That isn't a good enough reason not to dramatically improve the core if it could be done now. A few days of preset making shouldn't be a reason not to improve things for the better. Hive doesn't sound bad, it sounds good, but not the best. It will depend on the intentions of urs, if he just wants to create a 'good' synth, or a legendary synth like sylenth etc.Suloo wrote:hive is pretty much done in the core, there might be slight changes or more Osc in future but i don't think much will change, otherwise there wouldn't be a public beta. If it would change drastically, all the presets would be for nothing now.

But back to Sylenth, I'd take it over Hive. Sorry. Cool GUI though.
I've heard the objection a few times now, but I'm not sure whether people miss features or "magic sauce" or just plain presets. Some people who missed "magic sauce" hinted at envelopes, but that doesn't make much sense to me. Other people hinted at oscillator sound, and that made even less sense to me. Lastly, people pointed out filters, and this is where the main sonic difference is. This would make sense to me if people had gotten used to the way things are and if they are somewhat attached to it.
In any case, if there was one thing people could agree on, say, if 63% of people who object to Hive as a viable alternative to Sylenth (in the sense of maybe being their favourite supersaw synthesizer) and point it out, I'm sure we could add a fourth mode that does not have the same shortcommings as the current ones. Because, I'm sure we've done so many things right and we've pushed the envelope thus far for this kind of synth that - no matter what - I fail to see whatever major (and hopefully measurable) advantage Sylenth has over Hive.
And I don't mean that in the sense of "look here, we're killing it", I mean that in the sense of "here's a great synth, and those who object, please speak up so we can make it better - thank you very much!"

They are *ahem* somewhat different, but does the original clip really sound better?
I like the challenge but I'm afraid one needs a non-oversampled filter to get that acidic burst of resonance on the top end. Maybe instead of a BYO mode we indeed need an Eco Mode that makes this preset a piece of cake to recreate. Just kidding![]()
That said I'm fairly sure that it won't be long until people will ask how to do certain Hive patches in other synths.

Will give it a shot right nowSuloo wrote:did you try to recreate those patches already?mysticvibes wrote:The sound, is fuller, phatter, smoother. The interplay of the filters routings where two filters are linked creating a low pass, band pass, high pass sort of filter in one. Check out the Reese bass preset that ships with the factory bank as the example that comes to mind, plenty others though. Also, the overall simplicity. I admit I've spent a lot more time with sylenth so I am biased. Will have a listen to what others have done with it so far. These are just my initial impressions.Suloo wrote:what is it that makes sylenth sound better iyo?mysticvibes wrote:Seems some users just want this synth to be finished asap. Why? Why be so impatient. Spend another year on it and keep improving it. I'm not talking about new features, but the fundamentals, the core of the synth. To be honest Sylenth still sounds better imo. Don't rush urs in any way and try to be honest about the synth.

Okay, looks like I'm going to have to give up, the difference is just too great. I don't know if I'm doing something totally wrong or what. If someone else would give it a go, its BS Reese Bass 2. A pretty simple patch, but doing the same thing with Hive sounds nothing a like.Suloo wrote:cool would be nice to hear!mysticvibes wrote:

maybe it's because of the missing sync?

I created some more patches for Hive. This time a lot better imo and I properly labelled them. Cheers

This sounds pretty good. I would have loved to hear a filter sweep from both parts. Thats where the magic is imoSuloo wrote:here is my go on this, but couldn't create similar as well:mysticvibes wrote:

Edit* Just did the sweep myself and it sounds good. Good job in recreating it, sounds much better than my attempt
