Music Bird wrote: Wed Jan 30, 2019 3:30 pm I second the Dingo was his name o for the sequel of this track, Dingo Pt. 2, next time with a funky synth brass section and a cheesy reggae/ska backing MIDI ‘band’. I could see you making a hit off of this. Also, it sounds like you could make an interesting kids album with your vocals on some tracks and your vocals with Vocaloid backing vox on others, it would be nice to see one. With some original tracks and covers of traditional kids songs. You’re always creative! A kids album or bubblegum album would be interesting with your own twist, like using synthesizers in a country styled song or horn sounds in an Indian styled song.
Well, you've certainly given me ideas for future projects. Truth is, there is so much I still want to do but don't have the time I used to with my new job and responsibilities. 2019 is going to be a very different year for me.

9th track from my upcoming CD "Untitled Masterpiece"

Personally, I have several problems with this track.

1. The verse is a generic rock riff. Totally lame.

2. The chorus is cheesy and hokey. Equally lame.

3. I hate the way I sing this one.

The only thing that partially saves this track is the arrangement. The mix is decent but maybe a little uninspired and a little on the bright side. Could probably need some more low end.

This is usually the part of the CD where I start running out of ideas. And even though I worked for over a week on this one, there was no saving it.

Not the worst thing I've ever done but if I don't like it then it must be bad.

Need to work harder on the next one.

And The Angels Sang

Looking for salvation
Looking for the Lord
Looking for my peace of mind
Hell I can't afford
Can't outrun the devil
With my feet in chains
Need you to lift me
Over my pain

Lord I'm ready for you
Take me in tow
Countless days behind me
But long way to go
I can hear you calling
Calling my name
I can feel you lift me
Over my pain

And the angels sang
Hallelujah
And the angels sang
Glory to the Lord
And the angels sang
Hallelujah
And the angels sang
And the angels sang

Now I feel your loving
Arms around me
Through the holy spirit
You've set me free
Life will be eternal
As long as I believe
No more pain or sorrow
As far as I can see

All the folks around me
They call my name
Wanna know my secret
How I was saved
I just tell them plainly
Got to believe
That the Lord will be there
For whatever you need

Repeat Chorus

So come along and join in my song
And take the walk with me
I know it might sound odd
You can't go wrong with God
So take my hand and set yourself free

Repeat Chorus

My very first spontaneous thought: If David Bowie did this song then people would have followed him blindly as always.

I'm not quite sure how to take that but okay.

Yes, it's cheesy but it's also a well written song from a to z. Good Melodies, harmonies, lyrics, rhythm section, a functional structure, good instrumentation and arrangement. :tu:
My special attention caught the beatlesque chord progression of the bridge.

10th track from my upcoming CD "Untitled Masterpiece"

Another cheesy pop piece.

Peace Of Mind

You got your fame...you got your money
You got your car and your sweet little honey
And you've got troubles up to here

You got your drums...you got your saxes
You got your debt and your million bucks in taxes
And you've got death a comin' near

Headaches yeah you got a lot
Spit galore without a pot
Only thing that you ain't got
Lemme, lemme, lemme hear it

Peace of mind when the daily grind is over
Peace of mind when the audience goes home
You can wish on a lucky four leaf clover
You can wish to just be left alone
Peace of mind it eludes me like the lottery
Peace of mind it's as rare as fish that fly
You can tell that it's all a lot of crockery
Peace of mind you'll have it when you die
Right now all I want's my peace of mind

Repeat

Where's the bass?

I mastered the track to be bass light. It's there but it's not booming. It was a conscientious choice on my part.

Yeah, I get it. You don't have to hammer the point home. As I said, I mixed the track this way on purpose. If you don't like it that way, oh well. I didn't like the heavy bass in this track. It didn't work for me. So I moved it up an octave. It's an FM bass by the way that's more plucky than muddy. So that adds to the lack of bottom end.

Ultimately, I like the sound of it the way it is more than the way it was.

Anyway, point taken. I won't be changing it.

Okay, so I don't get 5 pages of "Where's the bass?" and no comments on the song itself, I've remixed it. I won't go into details on what I did but now the bass is more prominent and I can live with it as it's not overwhelming.

I can never tell when you're kidding or not so I'm just going to ignore this.

Okay guys, you wanna bust my chops find something else to do it with.

Here's the SPAN screen print of the track.

You will notice that everything from 300 down is lower than everything above it so there's not too much bass.

I will not even address the bass issue again if anybody brings it up. It's a non issue.

Brilliant lyrics, catchy melody ok mix... and i know you know....bass is lacking.

trust me on this, if you want everyone to stfu about the bass, try to get the freq balance as close to the yellow line in this analysis pic.

then again i respect your desire to give it the 1920s record player sound if thats how you
like it to sound. after all pleasing yourself comes before pleasing everyone else is what really matters.
