Yeah. I've never been tempted by anything until now. $50 for one of their vintage plugs crosses that threshold for me.

I'll bet $50 that on Sept 9th we'll get the 909 for the same price.

Maybe this the start of a new era in terms of their pricing strategy, rotate one product at a time at fifty bucks. Lord knows I don't need an 808, it's just nice to have access to the virtual real thing done well, and I caved.

No point in whinging about their past pricing, I assume it's worked well enough for them until now. But the market it so crowded with excellent alts that I think they're missing out on a large market of impulse buyers and those who dislike subs.

I would definitely buy it if I could. But I'm not going to rent a Roland Cloud subscription. There is just not enough stability in a subscription model for me to ever ever use rented plugins in any production of mine. Period.

But as soon as Roland lets me BUY the Boss Effects Pedals plugin, I am there!
I feel the same way. I'm intending to lapse my subscription, after 3 yrs of P4L I have synths I wanted but I'd be up for buying either the Zenology FX or the Boss stuff.

As a synth player I would instantly buy the Jazz Chorus Amp Sim, and the Boss CE-2 chorus and Boss PS-2 pitch shifter. No hesitation here is my credit card, as long as it wasn't tied to RCM and had to phone home every month

Why does the BF-2 in the BOSS Effects Pedals plugin say "Franger"?

Image
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

Post

I thought that was obvious. It's a cross between a Flanger and a Ranger. Franger.

Obviously a stereotypical racist slur!

Reminds me of when their manuals in the 70-80s instructed us to use a "plus" screwdriver.

They were telling you to use a "plus" screwdriver because a Phillips Head is for Phillips Screws and they were using "JIS" screws or Japanese Industry Standard, and a Philips Driver can damage them and just not fit right

Phillips heads have points and the screw heads have a much deeper hole, while JIS doesn't have a deep hole in the screw head and JIS drivers don't have the point of a Phillip and it's drivers look like a plus sign

Phillips heads were designed for the driver to lose grip if over tighter before the screw head got stripped. Especially with screws that are made out of softer metals like aluminum

JIS screws are pretty much always made out of steel, and are designed for a good grip on the screw head. While you can use a Philips Driver 90% of the time with JIS it's not going to have as good of a grip as a JIS driver and can easily damage the screw head if over tightened

Today JIS screws are still in use, but have been largely replaced with screw types like torx, or hex and even Phillips especially as many things are no longer being made in Japan with Japanese parts and screws are usually made in China

But if you were working on Japanese electronics or Japanese cars and motorcycles in the 1970s and 1980s you should have had a set of JIS or "Plus" drivers. I still have several

Except the screws they were referring to use them on were in fact phillips pan and counter sink head screws. Which implied they didn't know the difference. However, it was something that Roland US apologized for and explained that the problem then was between the engineers, assemblers and manual translators all using their specific language and not understanding the other's.

This lends to the racial slur in stereotypes that think all Asians exchange their R's and L's.

The screws you're referring to are a completely different part of the hardware.

Not sure what exact screws you are referring to, but I have been inside of a bunch of Roland electronics from the 1970s and 1980s and have seen a bunch of JIS screws not Philips, and I trust the engineers in Roland Japan to be familiar with what was intended a lot more than the marketing people at Roland USA who are not engineering the products, and we're trying to avoid the fall out of telling people they needed to buy different tools

I don't see why you are trying to inject racism into it, and are promoting Asian stereotypes. When the engineers in Japan specified a certain type of screw they knew exactly what they were referring to, when the factory workers saw those instructions again they knew exactly what they were referring to, and when the translators saw that again they knew exactly what they were referring to

When American's saw that they didn't know, so they defaulted to racism and stereotypes which is rather sad and is what you are doing now
